OK. I'm thinking of running a service, sales and repair shop for Aerus Electrolux vacuum cleaners out of my home. I live in an area that has a population of close to 200,000 people. There is currently no one who is servicing the area in regard to Aerus Electrolux. I talked with an Aerus dealer in regard to running a store out of my home. There wouldn't be any start up cost involved
Local customers would be given my telephone number. I would keep inventory in stock such as new machines and bags. Should I undertake this or walk away?

To be successful, you are going to have to become a salesman. Not in the respect of going door to door, but you WILL have to learn how to sell yourself as an expert, and sell your service (justify your service price) as well as sell any add-ons (high profitability). You will also have to learn how to demonstrate and close a sale of a new cleaner, even though they will be in your 'shop' as opposed to their home. You'll have to learn how to talk someone out of repairing their old cleaner and into buying (investing) in a new machine - if the cost of the repair or age of the old cleaner warrants it. It's no different than running a vacuum repair shop (I did for more than 20 years). The most successful people learn to become outgoing, knowledgeable SALESMEN. You really have to be good to justify $100 for a new hose, or $39 for a pack of disposable bags.

it's up to you

Really, it's up to you. I would have a backup plan if it doesn't work though. And, as was said before, you're going to have to justify the higher prices for the Aerus products. Honestly, with the popularity of internet shopping, I'm not sure how much longer Aerus's sales methods will be successful. I think there will come a day when they will either need to start selling their machines directly to consumers on line, or they will be out of business.

It sounds like an interesting idea.
I wonder if Aerus is going to be concerned about licensing? And if they will have concerns about one operating from their home.

So are you planning to purchase an Aerus Franchise for $50,000? I'm just wondering how this will work. If you aren't buying a franchise, why would Aerus sell you machines and supplies at wholesale? Is there an advantage to limiting yourself to Aerus products? Or would you do better as an independent? There's a lot for you to consider. Presumably you'd have to have liability insurance and possibly have to have a business license (government always has a hand out).

Have you ever watched the Shark Tank?

Best of luck.

Or you could forgo all that and just go online. Means you have to invest in extra packaging and of course insurance. But not as much as what it costs to own a shop.
