I used the model xxx to clean today and I was worried it would scratch the hardwood floors. So, I didn't want to take the sled look away by adding wheels, so what I did was, I cut some clear tubing and slipped it on both sleds (the cut on top)and it won't scratch the floor. It slides great on the rug and the hardwood floor there is some resistance but manageable when pulling it and it won't go flying across the floor and scratch it. I used the aquarium tubing and it has a sticky consistency so it stays on the sled. Looking at it, you can't even see the tubing.

Wheels.

Electrolux thought about hardwood floors so they designed wheels to fit on the back of the runners.(See photo.) They go just behind the cordwinder. There were several versions, the earliest two separate wheels held with a bolt and wing nut, then two wheels in a metal rod, and finally a swivel caster where the holder for the spare wrappers (bags) were stored. (Like on the model E.)

Actually, the runners won't hurt the hardwood floors, but it will save ware on the hose which if original is 63 years old.

So post a few pictures so we can see your handiwork.

Here are a couple of pictures of the model xxx with the tubing on the sled. You can hardly see it.
