Hey everyone, for those who want to hear what several vacuums sound like, I have done a pod cast describing and demonstrating my 22 vacuums. I'm a blind person, so there's nothing visual here, but you can hear what my wet dry vacs, central vacuum power units and canister vacuums sound like, and I have vacuums from several brands.

Thankyou for this!

I love central vac as well - it was fun to hear the motor sounds and your descriptions.

Great demo-you can picture the machines from the descriptions and sounds.I have started a central vacuum colection,too-I have three-two NuTone(very common here-Have NuTone and MD,Lux dealers here)CV450-twin motor 120V 13A,and CX550-believe thats the #-it has one two stage full bypass motor. The 450 has two full bypass two stage motors.Yes,these are powerhouses!Use them as described in the sound recording.Use the utility inlets.I am planning on getting a new MD unit in the box from the dealer-has the 12Gal open top bag.He says its for up to 12,000Sq Ft buildings.120V.One 2 stage bypass motor. The dealer showed me the machine-impressed with its high quality. The only new one I would have. The dealer tries to keep a machine in stock in case of "emerg" replacement.I have an Aerus-Lux unit-non functional-blown motor.Blown from the dust-its a bagless machine. The dust WILL get thru the foam filter!!!Then the motor gets killed.I have like 3 Shop vacuums-a Shop Vac 16 Gal SS machine labeled under Grainger,Tornado Task Force Ext filter WD.This is my most powerful vacuum-15A motor single stage.Discharges into a large polyester cloth bag.16Gal poly plastic drum.I have a new 14Gal Shop Vac with transparent dust-water bin.Use a bag in it-came with the bag installed. You can see the bag inflate and fill thru the bin.If you pick up liquid-can see the level in the bin.Used it a little in the garage.Has the 2.5 in hose.Since the fellow I deal with is an MD dealer-he is now saving trade in central vacs for me.Look at his other trade ins, too. He is a Sebo and Meile dealer.

Just got my MD S44-GREAT machine-pairs with the Kirby Avalir well!A couple runs with the Kirby connected to the S44 its bag is now brown instead of white!!Very satisfying hearing and feeling debris going thru the S44 hose from the Kirby. The MD S44 has a 12Gal open top Filtrete bag.Like a GIANT TriStar bag.The Filtrete bag sits in a cloth bag with a motor safety filter underneath.Rated @ 120V 15.8A 138" waterlift,150CFM.This machine is suprizingly quiet.

central vacuums

Glad you enjoyed the pod cast. Actually, using a central vacuum this way works very well. It's more powerful than the portable canister models, and you get the full power of the vacuum since you're not going through piping. Works great for an apartment, but you could do the same for a house if you didn't want to deal with installing the pipes. I wish I had a 220 volt outlet in my apartment, if I did, I would love to get the drainvac twin turbo. That thing uses 2 motors, and I think there are 6 fans attached to each motor, talk about a beast!

The only 240V outlets I have are a 30A one in the kitchen for my GE Advantium oven-and of course in the laundry-utility room for the dryer. No other 240V outlets in my place-since the house was built in 1972-no 20A 120V outlets, either.Built before the codes required them.My MD S44 owners manual says to connect it to a 20A outlet-it has a NEMA 15A plug.Runs just fine on a 15A outlet even thought the unit is marked 15.8A.This machine is brand new out of the box off the MD dealers shelf.Has has two other MD machines-the lower cost ones.I love this machine-a favorite along with my NSS M1 and Tornado vacuums. The MD pairs with the Kirby well-enjoy hearing and feeling things go thru the hose and into the MD unit.Beleive some other members here use their Kirbys with a central vacuum.Yes,use mine with the 35Ft generic hose.In the future will get the Central vac kit that has the Lindhaus powernozzle with a hose that the powernozzle plugs into a separate outlet-use like the Kirby. The dealer has offered to install my unit-but told him will think about it-will cost like 400 bucks to have the dealer do the whole installation. If I did this would like to try to put the unit in the laundry room.Don't want it outside in the HVAC-water heater room in the garage.

md central vacuums

I have the flomaster m85, which is similar to the silent master s44, difference is that it uses a flow through motor instead of bypass, and uses the 8 gallon bag instead of 12 gallon. Honestly, for using a flow through motor, I think it is a bit of an expensive model, but it is constructed very well and actually has a utility valve built in to it, so you don't have to attach one. The good thing about central vacuums is that you can upgrade the components separately. With most canisters, unless you purchase a model that can use electric brushes, you can't upgrade that later. Also, each canister takes a hose that only fits those models. With central vacuums, the coomponents are mostly standard, so you could upgrae to an electric hose at a later time. I've actually got an electric hose and an air only hose, when purchasing a hose, always best to get one with the 1 and 3/8 diameter, provides much better air flow.

The upgrades of being able to use whatever tools you want is now why I went to central machines-fun to use and collect-just use them as a "Giant" canister machine. And using them sort of like a portable machine means no loss or potential clogging of plumbing in the wall or attic. No basement here-so the pipes would be run in the attic.I plan to get the Deluce Lindhaus nozzle kit in the future.Contains electric hose with NEMA plug, hand tools, wands, and a hard floor tool.

second pod cast

I've done a second pod cast of the vacuums and power heads I've gotten since the first pod cast. There are 3 backpack vacuums in this pod cast, the Lindhaus HF6, and 6 different power heads. Enjoy.

my third vacuum pod cast

Hey everyone, here is my third pod cast of the vacuums I have gotten since my second one. We have three new backpacks and four canisters in this one, including some vintage electrolux models, and the Sanitaire sc535a backpack which is probably the quietest backpack available. You can also hear what my robot vacuum sounds like.

Excellent recordings of your vacuums.Like the spindowns of the 'Lux vacuums. The motors in those were of high quality-metal frames adn high grade ball bearings mounted in a finned, heat dissapating housings. The Neato vacuum sounded like a propellor airplane starting adn running.I would be concerned about the rubber strips hitting a highly finished wood floor. Those could catch a peice of hard debris adn scratch the floor.Curious-what kind of recorder do you use?the recordings are high quality. You must do music recording too?

recordings

Just using an mp3 player that also has recording capabilities, nothing special. I don't record music actually, might be fun to try it sometime. I love the sound of those older motors, the old Electrolux models, also I love the sound of some of the canisters from the 1950's, the Eureka canned ham, the Airway, and the KenCart's. I also like the sound of the Kenmore's from the 60's, 70's, and some from the 80's, I've thought about trying to get some of those, I may start a thread on the vintage forum and see if I can get more info.

I remember a "KenKart" my Stepmom had-that vacuum had a soft sound to it. She said it was bought around 1958 or so.Hers didn't have a powernozzle. We used a Kirby 511 for the carpets at that time.Liked using both machines.Kinda miss them. Both were flood victims.

Been a while since I have done a vacuum pod cast, I wanted to wait until I got several more before doing the next one, this fourth pod cast has 10 vacuums, a backpack, several canisters, one central vacuum unit and my two water filtration machines.
