Hello everyone.

I picked up a Windsor SR12 earlier in the week. It was pretty beat up and absolutely disgusting inside, but everything seemed to be working.

I took it apart and cleaned it, and changed the brush roll but when I reassembled it, the automatic height adjustment no longer works properly. The "up" light now stays on continuously regardless of the floor surface (where before it would adjust up/down when going from carpet to tile). The adjustment wheel does actually move, but it always returns to the full upright position. It also does this with the old brush roll, so I know that isn't the issue.

I didn't remove the motor or undo the belt, so I'm not sure what could have broken. Any ideas on what to look at before I spend $80 on a new clutch and sensor?

Check for any obstructions behind the sensor wheel underneath. Also take off the hood and check that the microchips have not come undone. It could also be the gearbox.

Forgot to add, the clutch spring seems to be working as it should.

Update: tried it again after work today, and it's adjusting as it should. My guess is it either got some moisture where it shouldn't have (as a result of the cleaning), or the ribbon cable connections on the board are dirty (I'll try DeOxit if the issue returns).

On the plus side, the stinkyness is gone, yay! And it seems to do better than the Electrolux on the fitted carpet. I'm amazed at how well it works, considering it's 15 years old and was clearly used and abused quite heavily.

That's good to know! Saved yourself a bit of money there. Mine is 15 years old plus. Im beginning to lose track of the years it has been in our family. SEBO X uprights are just one of the best IMHO. So easy to fix as well. Well, that's what the company designed them for. Reiterates their commercial uprights which are also built to last.
