I went traipsing off to the thrift stores south of me this morning, and determined that I will be writing a scathing letter to the Hometown News about the anal retentive thrift store volunteers. That's actually beside the point. Not finding anything in four of the usual locations except a very late Lux tank with a powerhead and some previous Luxes tools included for $45.00 at the Community Church Thrift Shop in Jensen Beach. Not for that price. Same place with the $45 Concept I and $45 Mixmasters. They're like family to me now-but anyway, in my trip to Hibiscus House in north Stuart, I ran into some old bags in the back. How fortunate, but at $3.00 a pack? Belts $1.00 for two, ok. Too bad there isn't a vacuum here today. I turned around and saw this baby, half rolled under a desk. It needs a good dusting and bath, and the aluminum zipper needs some attention. The bottom half of the paper bag is packed with who-knows-what. I will try to graphite the zip, because the bag is fine otherwise. I wanted this design since I started collecting, and here it is! It has that tacky stick on Hoover logo, and it must have been stored in the damp because the underpinnings have a film of rust.

The Blue Convertible

I acquired this one about three weeks or so ago at the Hibiscus House also, it is considerably tidier, and cost $15.00, with a new empty bag. It has a small rip in the upper left corner of the bag. The zipper is nylon, and works very well. In spite of the outrageous price of the Hoover factory disposable bags, I bought a set of four unopened ones dated 1965! Fat lot of good that does me, I'm not going to open them.

"proper" vacuums for Alan :)

I love the Convertible style, it really is timeless imo.

Love the brown one mate...all you need now is some old Panasonic vacuums ;]

The brown job is kind of a gold, the bag is the same shade, as appears in the picture. The blue is somewhat darker in real life. A Panasonic upright IS definately in my future. Just haven't found the right one.

I still want a old style Jetflo, unfortunatly they're about as common as Rocking Horse manure in the UK.

Well just to let you know pfffftttttt.. I gotta Convertible today as well. The lime green hood and lime green snap bag model free. It was a dropoff donation to a charitable group a friend of mine works for and they don't need vacs so he called me up. Also had a newer Windtunnel I took as well but when I got home I noticed the dirt bin was missing. groan. Oh well, free is free.. LOL

And the other day at the Sally Ann I shot a glance over at the swinging doors to the "forbidden back room storage area" and I saw a Convertible in there. I ran up front to the woman on cash and asked her to let me see it. They know me, I"m always in there LOL.. So she took me into the forbidden area and sitting there beside this convertible was lo and behold... a PANASONIC JET FLO CANISTER. It looked like death warmed over except for the hose and power nozzle which were very clean and almost unscathed. But when I got it home and gave it a good Magic Erasering followed by some MAAS silver polish it looks wonderful, and it just purrs so nicely, nothing raucous about it. Oh.. I didn't take the convertible,, the street was closed off to parking for pipe repairs or something and it was freezing so I had to make a decision and the Panasonic won. The convertible was missing it's front "convertible" decal as well.. but I may go back and get it for the bag and parts.

I had a lime green Convertible with the matching houndstooth bag, years ago before I officially started collecting. I don't recall if it was the snap bag or zip. I had to part company with it because it and the blue Quick Vac (?) were taking up space. We had our two regular vacuums which I still have.
