Well, I know many of us are anxiously awaiting new about Davids passing, both with plans for his memorial service, and of course the fate of his collection. Because of my closeness with David, as well as my close location to where he lived and kept his machines, I have been and will continue to work closely with them on his vacuums, and I will definitely rely on help from other local collectors as well. As of now we do not have any set plans for a service other than there will be a service both here in Denver and one in his hometown in Nebraska. I was offered and accepted a place in helping get the service here in Denver together, so I will have any and all information about that as decisions are made. I wont be really involved in the Nebraska service other than passing along information about it once its planned.
His vacuums: They will be divided up as planned among all of his friends first, and then the general public after, as seems to be customary. Friends who gave him machines will get first pick of those specific machines of his first, and then his friends will get choice of his collection before anyone else. Unfortunately because his cremation, services, and all of the other final expenses have put a large financial burden on his sister, the family does need a small amount of compensation per machine. We haven't set a price, but I believe we are going to be looking at around $10-15 each. My suggestion was that it be handled more of a donation in exchange for the machine rather than a sale price. The dollar amount I mentioned would be the minimum, as there is a bare minimum that is honestly needed, but I also want to make sure that we aren't asking so much that it prevents people from being able to get them. We are all in different financial positions and some can only do the bare minimum, while others may want to give a little more, and I know there will be yet others who wish to give some money and not receive a machine. Also I know some will need/want the machines shipped to them, and the price of the machines combined with the shipping has to be at a level that wont be prohibitive to the average collector as well. Once we finalize the money specifics, machines will start moving out of my hands and out to everyone. I wanted to get at least this much out there for now. If you gave him a machine, and would like to have it back, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP! Please do not wait until we are well into sending machines out and say “HEY! That was one I gave him, why does so and so get it!?!?!?” If you don't speak up now you may miss out. I also won’t be allowing people to try and “outbid” someone else by trying to offer me more for a machine than someone else, while the donations won’t necessarily all be the same, its going to be a strict first come-first served basis. My email is in my profile on here, and I will be following this thread.

I need you to help me with a few things.
I would like to add David to my list of friends on my family tree, problem is Ancestry.com requires exact dates of birth, marriage, divorce, and his ex's maiden name. Please provide this information so I can add him to my list of close VCCC friends. As to his memorial in Denver, whenever it is, I'll be there. Alex Taber. |

I am very saddened at the loss of someone so important to our community of vacuum collectors. My deepest condolences to all his friends and family.
If there are any vintage Kirby units left after friends and family have claimed their stakes, I would be glad to contribute to the memorial costs as well as give Kirby a loving home. My email is cadivaboi@yahoo.com and my cell is 510-673-6311. Most interested in The Ezee, Kirby 1, 2, and 3 (C or R), Wireless Vacuette, Vacuette, Scott & Fetzer Sanitation System, Kirby 505, and Kirby 508. I will consider adopting any available Kirby units. Thank you for your time and consideration. |
