Hey everyone...Hellga had a baby. I didn't even know she was expecting! I came home and found Freda right beside her!

Ok, here's the real story. I found out my grandparent's 1965 Kirby DS50 is working but not to her highest potential and it's not pick up their cat hair very well and moreover my grandmother is having a hard time maneuvering her around. So I visited to our local Kirby store and negotiated a darn good deal and picked Freda up today.

As for Hellga, I buffed her up with steel wool and Mother's AL cleaner and my car buffer. Now I'm packing her up and sending her to my grandparents in WV as a gift.

They have no idea it's coming along with some other goodies they need and enjoy too. I'm pretty pumped about both and they will stay in the family as Hellga will make her way back to my collection when they no longer need her.

So I'm posting pictures of opening and comparison picts. Thoughts?

All together now...

I told the dealer that I would assemble the Kirby so long as it won't void my warranty. He said it was cool!

Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves...

Hellga and Freda are together. Like mother, like daughter. Molly my Beagle is not even helping, she's napping.

YOU GOT A SENTRIA!!! YAYYYYYY!!!! I love the way those look... I just bought my first G-series Kirby (G-4 Refurbished) on ebay last week and I am waiting for it to arrive... I'm so excited about it... I'm also expecting my grandparents dual sanitronic 80 back from the Kirby factory any day now. All that will leave for me to get is a Classic III and eventually a Sentria. It's so cool that you are so considerate of your grandparents and you are surprising them with the G-6. I gave my grandparents a Classic Omega a few years back and they just love it. Gramps says he will never use any other brand of vac now.

Accessories...???

The only accessory I got was the shampooer. I picked that that up on eBay brand spanking new for $35.00 shipped. I have the sander from the G6 and plan on keeping it as my grandparents will not use it. The only accessory I'm now interested in is the Zip Brush. I'll have to work on that next.

But I am excited to send this to my grandparents. Although I won't see their faces, it's sure to knock their socks off!!

If you'd like to request photos, I'd be happy to. Funny thing though. I assembled it but I've not even turned it on yet. LOL.

Ok let's talk price...

Ok, I didn't ask them to come into my home. I figured if I was going to negotiate, it was going to in on their turf. I did this for one reason, I can walk out the door. It's harder to eject someone from my home than it is easier to eject myself.

I've learned that from watching James Bond...LOL. Remember Q once said, "Always have an escape plan" Which i did.

So I get there and let him know a couple things:

1. This was a cash sale. I specifically did not want to finance it.
2. I did not have a trade-in.

I walked in and told him I had a G6 to which he immediately offered me $500.00 for it. I thanked him and said that I was not interested as it was going to my grandparents in WV.

Well I asked what his MSRP was and he told me $1331.00 for the cleaner and an additional $130.00 for the shampooer.

I explained I was keeping the G6 shampooer as it would most likely fit the Sentria model. So I said I'll give you $700 in cash for the Sentria and basic attachments. He said he could not do that. We negotiated for about 15-20 minutes but he kept wanting Hellga (G6) which Hoover1060 helped me with. But that was going to my grandparents.

As we talked more, he was telling me his sales were down for the month due to his son's illness and he owned this dealership originally and now his son is working it. I empathized with sincerity but told him my Grandmother's 1965 Kirby DS50 (which they have promised to me) is hard for her to push around and is not pulling up the cat hair. So I laid it on pretty thick too...

I pulled my checkbook out and said, "I'll write the check for $800 plus tax if we have a deal today." He paused and asked if I was serious, I said, "Date is on the check now, tell me how much I can make this out for" Well we settled for 800 plus tax.

He said I could have it assembled for free and pick it up in the afternoon. I told him I could take it now, relax and enjoy the afternoon. Well we filled out the appropriate paperwork for my warranty, brought it home and put it together.

It's been only today that I've started using it. It's a sweet cleaner! I love both Hellga (G6) and Freda (Sentria) and would keep both but my Nanny and Papa really need a newer Kirby with Tech-Drive. It will help her out so much!!! Plus I know she will be back.

So that's my story and I honestly feel I got a great deal for $800.00 and I picked up a Sentria Shampooer on eBay new in box, never used, even has that new car smell (LOL) for $35.00 shipped.

On another note, I asked him what Kirby was going to do with those "Sold as new" cleaners...and he said, "They will find and sue them". Which leads me to think that Kirby has a great product, but is their sales method showing age and out dated? I'll post that on another thread.

Also, I'll post videos on YouTube when I get the chance.

A deal??? More like a steal!!!

You got a Sentria for $800 +Tax? WOW Matt, let me take you to my Kirby dealer with me!!!

You definately got a good deal, AND it shows how high the mark-up is on those things. Even at $800 the guy still made some $$$ on it.
Congtrats on the Sentria, enjoy it!
