I know many people particularly in the vintage world of collecting knew David well. He has been having heard issues the last few months including a few mild heart attacks in the last few weeks. I heard the info thru one of the collectors on a facebook group and wanted to inform those not on facebookland of his passing.
I did talk to David a few times and he was a very knowledgeable and kind guy. really big into the 40's 50's and 60's machines particualry kirby among others. this is a huge loss for the community. Even though i didn't know him well, it still saddens me he is gone as he was a very kind and generous collector. David Lived in the Denver area. |

Wow. I am definitely surprised by this! This is definitely a great loss for the vacuum collecting community. I, too, was one of David Watter's friends....we had talked a couple of times on the phone & chatted on Facebook. Was sincerely looking forward to meeting him someday in person. Like others have said on here, David was a really nice guy & seemed to me like he had a good heart. My condolences go out to David's other friends here & family members here.

A few weeks ago, I knew he was having some health issues, but had no idea it was as serious as it evidently was, another good friend gone... |

David came to the Vacuum Convention at the Vacuum Museum for as long as we've been holding it. He was just here in June. So glad we got to see him 'at his best' one last time.
This is a picture of David, myself, Mike Pletcher, and the late Dennis Cox at the first St. Louis VCCC meeting in 1996. He was a cheerful guy, who always made people laugh and feel good. He will be sorely missed.

Yes I remember our phone chats.
Thanks for the post as it gives me, and all of us, a starting point. As I've already stated, Dave was one of the early members, and the VCCC needs to pay tribute to him as he was a loyal member and good friend to all of us. Any information will be helpful. Alex Taber. |

I'm a member of Ancestry.com and am trying to dig info on 'our' Dave, seems there are countless David Watters scattered around the country. So do any of you know the place he was born, the exact date, and the year he got married? If you have any info, or data that will help me locate an obit, send it to me in an email under the heading of VCCC.
Dave deserves to be remembered by all of us. Alex Taber. |

Once again I got an email addressed to Caligula. Those who were part of the VCCC in the 80's-90's know that 'Caligula'was a cream colored cat who was also the club mascot. Caligula means 'little boots' in Latin. (see picture)
In some pictures and early club material I was known as Bob, that's my first name, but in 95, I opted to go with my middle name Alex. Hope that clears up the questions. |

I just heard the news about Mark Thomas from a phone message from Billy Lipman. His passing, and that of David, were just very sad. I know David had some serious health challenges, but I did not know that Mark was sick. This has been a bad month for all of us.
Bless them both. Two losses to all of us. |

I found out about David's tragic passing through Facebook. He was in some vacuum cleaner enthusiast groups on Facebook. Very knowledgeable and comical gentleman. I wished he would have posted more frequently as I looked forward to his input! So sorry for his passing. Blessings to his family and loved ones. May his cheerfulness and memories always live on!!
We'll celebrate the life of David in our vacuuming! |
