Are you looking for vintage or modern? I think if you're going to compare those two machines then that is a more unique way of looking at it. With the Concept you'll have a great cleaning machine. Hoover's Quadraflex agitator with combined beater bar and brush strip. You'll need HEPA A bags to come closer to filtration of the Maytag. Depending on the model you get, you might get Self Propel as Concepts are a hefty machine. But with a Concept, you're buying or have in your collection a machine that is over 25 years old. Parts are hard to come by- especially brush roll strips.
With the Maytag M500 though you get a brand new machine with full 3 year warranty. According to specs it is very energy efficient at 5.5 Amps. Xenon Headlight, lightweight design but very powerful cleaner. I've heard nothing but great things about the new line of Maytag vacuums produced by Tacony. Essentially you're getting a TOL Riccar Supralite by buying this. But Tacony redesigned their already fantastic Riccar Supralite which beat Orecks as they were. But now this newer version is even more powerful with more airflow. I wouldn't doubt actually if the Maytag beats the cleaning power over the Concept actually!! I don't know the length of cord for a Concept 1 but the Maytag has a 30'. Now add to this, if you're looking at newer direct air machines, have you thought about the Maytag M1200? It is a dual design Direct and Bypass system!! Designed similar to the Riccar Tandem Air system! You can suck up dirt with the bag door off or suck up even more with the bag door on!
