I have been wanting to create a thread about this machine since joining the forum. This machine was purchased from a family in central Ohio. The story goes that Mr. Hanner was a Hoover salesman, and took this machine in on trade. The family contacted my father back in the early 80's about this machine. I know that my father gave him a new in the box concept one, and some amount of money. My father had always kept the amount secret, but knowing him I doubt that he paid a great deal. This is a model 194 side outlet. The serial # range is 5,000 to 7,000, with this being serial #6698. Sadly, the original brass Hoover badge was replaced on 6-30-1938 when it was serviced. I was wondering if it was done at the factory? The machine still runs with its Westinghouse motor. Early motors were somewhat primitive. It starts up really slow, after it builds speed, a centrifical clutch flies out and grabs the huge fan, and sets the brush into motion. The great thing is that I have the attachment set for this machine. I wonder how many of those even exist today? The box for the attachment set I believe is not the original. Someone made it to display the attachments. The box top has a railway express label on it and a label from Kling Studios in Chicago and was sent to Robert S. Hanner, The Hoover Co., 160 Center St. in Akron.

I have that same model Hoover, with the exception that mine has the Robins and Myers direct current motor. I also have the instruction manual. Congrats on a very rare Hoover.

I've seen photos of yours Tom. Wish mine had the brass badge. In your vdta article about the senior, it was mentioned how early machines had an elastic bag that often would blow off. The bag clamp was quickly put into production to end that problem. I have a bag that came with the machine that has elastic, but does not have the Hoover name on it anywhere. It also does not have the round top.
