I picked up my brand new old stock Sanitaire SC886 Vacuum. I am so happy I did not have to buy a Clarke Reliavac to get the traditional Sanitaire motor, or even worse, a Perfect. However, though it is brand new in the box and has never been taken out, it has some deficits.

1. Some scratches, likely because UPS was so rough.
2. The bottom plate is stuck tight and I can not even get it out.
3. Some of the stryrofoam pieces melted on the furniture guard.
4. When I turned it on, a big styrofoam piece fell out.
5. The hood popped out when I put the handle down.

I am going to get it fixed today, and then hopefully I will make a video of it. It sounds so brand new and so awesome! I consider this a Vintage New Old Stock Sanitaire, because today's Sanitaires are not made with the metal motors anymore. They are made with that very cheap sounding plastic motor. You hardly even find brand new Sanitaire from pre 2010 in the box. I'm not keeping the box because I am replacing the Hoover Convertible with this Sanitaire, because I wanted one good brand new commercial vacuum to use for cleaning and my other 3 will now remain showcase models. I paid $250 for this Sanitaire, but it was so worth the money, because again, finding a NOS Sanitaire with the metal motor is impossible now and days. I had to look hard for one.

I don't know why your under the impression that the new Sanitaire SC886 is different than the 9 year old one you bought, they still use the same motor, unlike the Perfect brand motor, it is still the same 7 AMP Eureka motor that they have been using since 1978. It sounds like your machine was roughed up a bit, but no big deal, we used to get shipments of 48 of them from Eureka and many of them needed to have the hoods reinstalled, there was always styrofoam on the clear bumpers, which was easily taken off with lighter fluid, be careful not to get it on the red plastic base. The bottom plate had a liquid formed gasket and from the plate being on 9 years it got stuck, gently pry it open after you open the 2 clamps, than put some baby powder on the gasket so it doesn't get stuck again. It sounds like you found a nice machine there, even though it is the same as the current model minus the Electrolux name added to the new machine, god luck with it, they are one of the best cleaning uprights on the market.

Actually, there is a difference in the motor, for me there is. Just listen to these videos of the two different motors. I hope to have my version of my own Sanitaire up soon. But anyways, here are the links:

This is how the motor sounds on mine, but this model is from 2008:

This is how the motor sounds on 2015 Sanitaires:

Notice the difference. The 2015 Sanitaires sound like the motor in the 2nd video. They sound more high pitched. I don't like those high pitched motors. Perfect vacuum motors sound like the traditional Sanitaire motors, but perfect is a bad company.

Also, I took my new Sanitaire to the vacuum store earlier today, and I got it fixed. The guy just popped the hood back in place and also told me about the gasket. I hope to upload some pics later on and a video later on too. As said, I am not keeping the box, because I need to ship the Hoover Convertible in it to somebody. It's the same box Sanitaire has always been using, nothing really special.

As for the motor, tell me if you think there is a difference. For me, I hear a difference. Even my friend who does not collect but likes vacuums notices a difference too.
