Hey everyone. So, even though I currently have all hard wood floors, my girl friend may be getting an apartment soon that has carpet, and we will probably be getting a house at some point in the future that has some carpets. Since I prefer to use canister and central vacuums, I am thinking about getting at least one, maybe a couple power nozzles for my collection. I'm wondering what everyone thinks is the best power nozzle to get, and if anyone has had any experience with the ones I'm going to list. I know there are two ways for power nozzles to connect, the universal way which has a cord coming from the nozzle, and the cord either plugs in to the hose itself, or could also plug in to a wand if the cord is short. The other method is the quick disconnect method, where the wand goes in to the hose and connects to the power nozzle. The wand connects directly to the electric terminal on the nozzle. This way is easier in some ways to attach, but it's proprietary, requiring the wand, hose, and nozzle to be matched. I'm more interested in power nozzles that connect using the universal method, here are the nozzles I'm considering.
Lindhaus makes a few different nozzles, a 12 inch, a 14 inch, a 14 inch commercial, and even a 17 inch. I was thinking about the 14 inch commercial model, does anyone know what the difference is between the regular and commercial version?
How about the Wessel-werk models. There's the ebk 340, which I think is actually an older model, the ebk 360, and another one called the premere 850, which apparently is available, but not listed on the Wessel-Werk site. Also, I can't seem to find the 360 as a universal model with the cord, only the model that works with the central vacuum wand for direct connection.
I was also considering the Sebo power heads, in particular the ET2 or the ETC. The ET2 seems to have better steering, but the ETC has an automatic height adjustment. You can get a central vacuum adapter for these that provides the universal cord.
Then there's the Riccar power nozzles, in this case, I'm interested in the Riccar universal power nozzle, I think this is not quite as good as the top of the line model which provides 3 brush strips and has the dirt detector. The universal version has 2 brush strips which I wouldn't think would make too much difference.
Finally, since I have an Aerus classic canister, I could get the Aerus power nozzle for it, it has a short cord on it, but I could get an adapter that would extend the cord so it would work with any electric hose. I would prefer the universal power nozzles so I could use them with my central vacuums, or my canisters that have electric hoses.
I know Centec Systems also makes power nozzles, but everything I've read about them seems to indicate that they are not as good as the previous ones I have mentioned.
Also, one other question, do you prefer power nozzles that let you set the height manually, or do you think the automatic ones work just as well?

I personally prefer manual height adjustment because I guess I would rather adjust the height myself. That's my only explanation for that. I like the power nozzles from the '90's Kenmore whispertone canisters. They agitate carpet very well with 2 rows of brushes and a beater bar.

Of the options above my top choices would be

Lindhaus: I kind of consider the lindhaus nozzles to be my best ones, I have both a PB12 and a PB14. I prefer the 12 because you can install a dual row brush in it like the aria platinum, as far as i know they do not make a dual row for the 14+

Wessell Werk: The EBK340 is amongst the best power nozzles i have ever used. while it lacks a height adjustment it works well on every carpet type we have

Riccar/Simplicity: I had one on my Riccar 1700, it too had a two row brush the performance was good, but i had a problem with it triggering the reset on the carpet we have in the living room even after replacing the switch the problem remained.

As for the others
Sebo: I haven't directly tested with ET-1 against other nozzles so i will not comment on it, but I don't like the ET-C It was on the lower end of performance and it's grooming was mediocre
Aerus: Their power nozzles have always been a weak point

There is always the Sweep and Groom nozzles, which use the Vibragroomer 3, those are some nice nozzles.

I've always liked the SEB236 which I upgraded from the 228 with my S8 Marin (forgot which Wessel Werk number it is).  I also liked the good old Hoover Quadraflex Powermatic on the Dimension 1000.

If I use the Hoover WindTunnel powernozzle does a decent job.  I wish it had manual height adjustment and a handle lock but we can't have everything.

Blackheart, the Riccar 1700 which was the S36 clone, I had a similar problem as well with my S36, funny you mention that.  It seemed so sensitive to higher pile carpeting.

The ET-C is the older floor head by SEBO that not many use now - the auto height adjustment has never really worked for me, or anyone else I have spoken to. The ET-H is the replacement with an auto dial that doesn't work all that well, either.

The ET-1 is so much better and it is fitted to the SEBO Felix upright as standard as well as the canister/cylinder vacs such as K3, E3 and D4. It has 4 manual height adjustments and a brush roll on/off button. Also an indicator if the brush roll is set too high or where a blockage might occur. It is quite a robust unit that is fitted to lots of commercial units as well as other brands - Sauber for example use the ET-1 on some of their canister vacs. Easy to use and has a push button to release the side panel door to pull out the entire brush roll.

SEBO wanted to concentrate all of the controls in one area, which is why the ET-1 has a brush roll on/off button.

However, the commercial ET-1 PN's do not have that brush roll on/off feature, so be careful to bear that in mind if you are considering it.

Agree with blackheart

12" lindhaus with dual row brush is amazing. I had it ordered from lindhaus and they send it with a telescopic wand like the aria but the top fits into plastiflex hoses. It's amazing the difference between the single and two row. I prefer smaller nozzles to get in between furniture, I've never cared about the time savings that a 14" offers
