It's not Miele bags for me,but any long lasting bags I tend to put a little sticker inside the bag compartment or write on the bag when I changed it. Just so I know how long it's been. |

Just wondering, what do you use your Miele for? Are you using it mainly for attachment cleaning to supplement a upright vacuum you have? I don't personally date my bags....when I use a canister, I use it enough where I have to change a bag at least every month - 2 months max. But if your Miele still had lots of suction & enough room in the bag, to me that's a shame to throw a bag after 8 months if it can still be used. Maybe you should look into a product like Fresh Wave Vacuum Pearls if the bag starts to stink. Obviously, suck the product into the bag when you notice the odor, NOT when the bag is new, as it will just get buried by the dirt & not be as effective. One other thing I like to do is to use some of the home fragrance oils from The Body Shop....just 2 or 3 drops on the bag will do.

But I change bags when they smell, not when they're full. They always smell after a month. |

The Miele has become my canister of late, last few years, heavy is not something I can do. It gets weekly use on the big clean, but Max likes to be cleaned by it also, so that can make bag stink after many many months. It is not my favorite canister but at this point in life and my physical condition it is the right one for me. Daily is more a Dyson thing, again, easy.

I think all vacuum cleaners smell if you have dogs. Not so bad if you have cats. Of course the bag will reek if all that hair and associated oils sit together in a clump and rot away quite happily. But then even if a new bag and a filter is fitted so many owners forget that the pipes, hose and suction tubes are also lined with the oils which then need a good clean out.
