Hi guys,

I've done a restoration of a Hoover Junior Dirtsearcher 1354A. I know many people have done this before but I thought I'd share a few pics. I have had two of these in the past but they were in poor condition and scapped them. It was the Hoover junior that got me into vacs. As it seemed everyone had a junior in the 70s and early 80s! I bought this model off eBay. It looked complete except bag. The lense hadn't yellowed and the easy release hook hadn't snapped so I bought it. When it came it was very dirty and didn't sound healthy. But the more I dismantled it I see it's had an easy life. It appears to have original flex fan bumper even carbon brushes. I thoroughly cleaned it replaced bearings in motor and beater bar. Added new brush strips and belt and new carbons. I bought a plastic polishing kit which I have to say I'm very impressed with. I lightly sanded the case and cover with wet n dry paper as it was badly scratched. Then slowly buffed with 2 grades of polish. The pictures don't do it justice. It looks very white and very shiny apart for two very deep scores on the top. I'd recommend the polish kit to any vac restorer ! It runs like a dream and I'm enjoying using it.

See that you think

Richard

That is a "fab" rehab!

All of my cousins in Ireland had a Junior.... not all were dirtsearchers.

I have 2 Juniors,  or, as we call them here, "The apartment vac"., or, "lightweight".A dirtsearcher is on my "list". Great restoration.
