Hit a couple of thrift shops today, out in Aurora one shop has a Hoover 62, Hoover 63 and a Hoover 23, left those there. Then hit the Salvation Army in Montgomery and found this Electrolux 2100 for $5.68 with tax. Grabbed that, brought it home, took it apart and cleaned it. Cleaned the bag control valve so it works again, the lights work for power, bag full and no bag. Checked the hose, guaranteed to leak and it does. When you can put your hand over the end of the hose and the sound of the motor doesn't change you know it's leaking.

Too bad about the hose, but a nice score nonetheless. Fortunately, good hoses are pretty easy to find.

I wonder how many uneducated consumers toss out a vacuum because it has developed poor suction, not knowing that a leaky hose is most likely the culprit but think the motor is the problem?

Probably about as many as toss out perfectly good uprights because they need a bag and a belt.

Nice find. I'm amazed you left the Hoovers at the store. You just don't see stuff like that for sale around here very often.

I have several used wire reinforced vinyl electric hoses as well as a couple of brand new ones for the plastic bodied series. I even have a spare Epic 6500 SR hose, even though I hate the plastic electric wands. I also have several used wire reinforced vinyl electric hoses for the metal body series. So I'm well stocked and yes they are all genuine Electrolux.

As for the Hoovers, they don't really interest me even though I have a model 63. If they were from the 20's I would be interested. A couple of weeks ago I turned down a Hoover Model 28 for $10.
