Interestingly

I'm guessing the vacuum serial # indicates it is possibly a 1992 vintage. The powermate serial #D326, I believe means the 26th week of 1993.

Experts am I on the right track??

The vacuum is like new, another hardly used gem. I'd hate to see the Air-Way go by the wayside.

Leslie

Air Way OR NOT

looks like the AiR-Way could that be a division of Air Way> Very nice Vacuum

It was made by Air-Way for Vita-Mix Corp.

Power Nozzle

I'm glad to see you have that well made power nozzle instead of the standard Douglas power nozzle that ususally comes with the Vita Vac. The power nozzle you have really deep cleans and is a pleasure to use. I have the same one on my purple Air-Way. (You can't beat a power nozzle with the brush/beater bar combination in most situations!) :-)

Congrats on a great vacuum!

Thanks Logan

according to the Vita-Vac folks, this is the "enhanced" power nozzle. Apparently an upgrade from their standard offering. Several years ago I had a Whirlpool canister that had this identical carpet nozzle. You are so right, it does a wonderful job!

Now I need to get an upgraded attachment set!

That's a beautiful vac, Leslie - I remember you telling me about it. Did you get another Air-Way too?

Great pics!

So it sounds like Vita Vac ditched the cheap power nozzle and started selling them with only the deluxe power nozzle now! That's a very smart move in my opinion. You are correct that the power nozzle is identical to the Kenmore power mate models. I think if you are going to spend all that money on an Air-Way or Vita Vac, you should get a power nozzle that is just as well built as the vacuum itself! (Plus it has a geared belt that should never need replacing) LOL I'm sure you already know all of this! :-)

As far as the attachments go, the friend of mine that I bought my Air-Way off of had a very nice "deluxe" set of attachments that he gave me for the purple Air-Way. They are not genuine Air-Way by any means but they are little nicer than the basic set that comes with the vacuums (same ones as the Vita Vac). You should be able to find a nice set with no problems.

No

Air-Way here Greg. A purple one would be so much fun. I'm just thrilled to have the "black-beauty" Vita-Vac.

In my remarks above, I was just lamenting that it would be sad if the Air-Way went away. I hope the new owners revive the brand.

The Vita-Vac folks have discontinued selling vacuums.

yup that geared belt is quite "robust". You are right, there are Air-Tec attachments that replicate the originals quite nicely.

Christmas is only 10 months away....LOL

Really nice. I thought at first it was a brand new one you just purchased. Did it come with the tool carrier that clips on

Very nice

That is a beauty Les, the shine is amazing!

I have an older model, and I use the same P/N that you have. It works great, and I added a twist: Since I have mainly plush carpeting I swapped out the beater bar strip for an additional brush strip, so there are a total of 3 brush strips. Initially I thought it might put too much drag on the motor, but as was mentioned its very robust, and did not slow things down at all.

If I had one gripe about the cleaner its that there is little/no bumper protection on the canister, so I am careful about it banging into my walls.

I was sad to see Air-Way go too, I also have a Sani-Clean New Century that I absolutely love!

Thanks everyone

for the Vita-Vac (Air-Way) enthusiasm! I'm really grateful to have this vacuum and glad that you've enjoyed the pics.

*Logan, I'm a Libra.....LOL

*Pete, no attachment carrier. Vita-Vac did not offer it. They have a zippered cloth bag to tote the attachments.

*Regarding the shiny chrome, it cleaned up nicely with "Goof off" solvent and Weimans liquid silver polish. The machine was very well cared for by its former owner and required only a minimum of effort to freshen up.

Jeff, I'll bet your triple brushroll really fluffs & grooms the carpet exceptionally. You are so right about the lack of bumper strips.....odd that somewhere along the way, they were not added.

With 3 new Airway filters and a fresh hepa Air-Tec bag(thanks to Terry L), the suction power is really strong. So much so, that the floor brush has a tendency to seal to the smooth floor when held at a certain angles.

Visitors find this vacuum very compelling due to its simplicity and retro appearance. Definitely a keeper!

L.P.

Jeff

Why did you remove the beater bar strip to replace with a regular brush strip? I would think the beater bar/brush combination would have been an excellent choice for your plush carpets. I'm just curious.

Logan

Thats an easy answer: Just for fun!
I had always wondered what the performance would be with three rather than two brush strips. So for fun I swapped it out.
A beater bear is only really effective if it can lift the carpet a'la Hoover, and the way this nozzle sits on the rug I thought maybe a 3rd brush might be fun.
It really didn't make a noticable difference in the drag on the motor.
Besides, I have this little monster to clean up after...
