Hello to all the great people on this web site!

My beloved Electrolux 89 Elux-O-Matic started to make troubles days ago.

It had the same trouble years ago and I cleaned and lubricated the bearing that time. The bearing is ball races built in a plate of motor housing and the balls were loose from the race retainer. So I carefully corrected the retainer to keep the ball races in position and lubricated.

I would like to do more solid repair this time.
Is there a bearing that can fit in and and replace the built in ball races?
Is there any upgrade parts or kits for that?

I will appreciate for any information that can help me out to restore this great machine I have used everyday for the past 20 years. Thanks!

If its the original 89 motor (bearing pates are held in place by two screvs) it takes a 629 2RS bearing. If it has been rebuilt with a new armature (bearing plates riveted on) it takes the smaller 608 2RS bearing. You should be able to get them at any bearing supply place. (Aklands carries them)

Hi Collector2,
thank you so much for your kind reply with the valuable information.
I will get the part and repair it. I have a small lathe and I will recondition the commutator surface too.
Best regards from Vancouver, Min

Hey Min

For the commutator all you need is a brush setting stone. It will smooth it out and clean it up at the same time without the risk of metal filings that can short it out.

Yep that is often all it takes. These machines, unlike the new ones, were made to be repaired LOL.
