I would recommend this Panaosnic. It performs well, ahs a decent brushbar, bagged obviously, sturdy build quality and is inexpensive.

I want a brand new machine rather than used. If it was used I might as well just use a vintage vacuum. |

You're only options for bagged uprights under £100 are Panasonic or Hoover Purepowers, the latter of which are pretty awful.
A Henry would be a good for a cylinder, if that's what you're looking for. If you can stretch your budget, Sebo and Miele are great if you want bagged. Dyson if you want bagless. |

Hell no i'm not going for a PurePower. Iv'e already got a Henry ( HVR-200-A2 ) Thats just it I would defiantly go for Dyson if my budget would stretch that far, but it won't at the moment. |

The newer ones clean much better and have more airflow British homes tend to have thinner carpets which is a benefit when using something like an older Dyson, if it's a newer Dyson on a thick pile carpet, then very good (Y) |

I don't think you can go far wrong with those Vax Air cleaners, especially the new ones. It's a bargain at £89.99. Multi cycloning, lightweight, stretch hose, 6 year guaruntee and the brushroll on the new models is very impressive - really makes the dirt bounce!
The only drawback is the cyclone isn't as efficient as a Dyson, so the filter requires more frequent cleaning, but this is reflected in the cheaper cost. |

What is this constant thinking that you have that people are twisting what you're saying? Have you thought for just one minute that maybe it's you? Maybe you need to be clearer with what you're saying and that people are just struggling to interpret what it is that you actually mean?
Now that's not a contradiction, is it? Either you think it's too blocky, or you don't. Since when was something being "just a bit" anything grounds to dismiss it completely? It if's "just a bit", then surely it can't be that much of a problem. |

Right, ok, so from your above post Emma, that's given us some idea's to play with now, thanks for that. And I'm sorry if I sound like I'm being harsh, but it's quite frustrating to sit and watch as people make suggestions that seem to fit what you're looking for, for you to then bash them away for seemingly no reason or because you don't like the look of them. Well, Emma there is "ONE" heavy upright I can think of.. it might appeal to you. It didn't appeal to me but I loved the handle, long cord and hose design. The Hoover Slalom. They're still selling on Amazon UK as they are fitted with 1200 watts. They're £107 if you afford that.

Yeah in the UK, when those appeared in the U.S they were priced near to £150 / $236
They're hardly cheap, sadly. They were sold under the Sanitaire label. Sometimes they come up on EBAY UK but very rare now. But then I stand corrected - here we go. Still, its £115 plus £35 for delivery, so there we go again, £150. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEPA-VACUUM-CL... Link also goes to different Sanitaire upright.
