The second weekend in June always finds the Vacuum Collectors visit to the "Mecca" of the vacuum collecting hobby - the Vacuum Cleaner Museum in St. James, Missouri.

Collectors came from all over America traveling many miles to attend. They brought great treasures to SHARE with each other, we had a service clinic where we repaired and restored machines, we visited members homes to view their collections, and held a fantastic (free) barbeque for everyone on the final day. We got an extended tour of the factory, and had a drawing for a Maytag M-1200 (Congratulations Ryan).

More than anything else, we shared stories and gossip with each other - and LAUGHED all weekend long. A Good Time Was Had By All.

Here's a picture of some of the guys arriving for the first day - bringing in their treasures. There were Hoovers galore, and I didn't even have to wear a rubber glove to touch them.

Your gathering is more my style. A free barbecue, you can't beat that. I got to get down there at see the museum. For the life of me, I can't understand why a collector would travel all the way to St. Louis, and not see the museum. Maybe you need to offer hazmat suits at the door.

MANY of the VCCC memebers (and guests) stopped at tom's musueum on the way up or drove out before the conention began thursday evening . my friend sean and i showed up rather early and it was a treat to meet tom in person and the wonderful museum. im in process of getting ready to post photos of my adventure to the museum and the convention. i dont need to draw party lines. i enjoy anyone who collects vacuums and it was a treat to meet collectors from both groups.

The Kirby display at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum. Thanks to Frank Morgan for the flawless Diamond Edition and the Sentria. Thanks to Robert Clow for the Sentria II. Without you guys, the Kirby display would be 'missing' something. Thanks to David Watters for the gold plated G5. No rubber gloves needed to touch Kirbys.

During the convention, a woman came to the Museum hell bent on getting rid of this Kirbeast G6. The cord shorted out at the grommet, and burned her hand. She bought a new 8 pound Riccar, and gave the Museum her G6. A new cord, and a little Mother's Polish, and this machine is perfect. Runs like it just left the factory.

Chris Spoon's Haley's Comet. There's a poem inside the lid that states "The Age of Space...The Rocket Race...Push-button Leisure Day...Be First to Clean your Jet-Set Home...The Haley Comet Way". It's a monstrosity. Weighs a ton, it's a copy of a Compact with a cord winder. The most awful gold color - like K-Mart spray paint. The Rug Tool is the worst Rug Tool ever made. Big like a dinner plate - and very ineffective. A Regina Housekeeper would remove more dirt - and that's saying something. Still, how many exist?

Frank Morgan was kind enough to give the Vacuum Museum this gorgeous Eureka Power Touch upright with the military box top bag, power touch handle, chrome hood, and VG1. It's flawless. Thanks a million Frank. I've known Frank from when I used to belong to the VCCC and we had a meeting in North Canton - the Hoover Power Drive (with Elite motor) was the NEW cleaner just coming off the factory floor. That was a very long time ago.

David Watters brought this Kenmore Bug Eye Imperial, all the way from Denver, to place in the Vacuum Museum. I've known David from the very first VCCC meeting - there were only 12 of us in the club. Most of those first club members have remained my friends after all these years - testimony to the fact that one makes life long friends in the vacuum collecting hobby. Even if we don't belong to a 'club' any longer we are still best friends.

Two more shots of that god-awful monstrosity, the Haley's Comet. It's important to history because there are so few existing. There are so few, because only a 'special' person could be conned into buying it. The last time I saw Haley's Comet wands, Miss Frickety was using them as Tiki Torches at her luau.

Ryan Logan examining the brush bar of the Singer R4. It's fully tufted brush cleans brilliantly, every bit as well as the beater bar brush on the Hoovrah.

We have a 'game' we play with uprights. We place a red Kirby wand horizontal on the floor and rug two upright up to it from opposite directions. The game is called "suck the stick", and the upright that can pull the wand and hold it away from the other upright 'wins'. It's surprising which cleaners have the ability to grab the 'stick' and not let go for dear life.

Even MORE of Bill Kirby's amazing collection. To think, when I met Bill, he had NO vacuum cleaner. I sold him a Hoover Windtunnel brand new (oh the shame I feel today). I didn't even know him then. The next cleaner I sold him, to supplement the Hoovrah, was his Die Soon DC17 Absolute. He used it a LOT, and still does to this day. It did NOT "Die Soon" because he takes care of it.

More suction power competitions. The Hoover Model 28, belonging to Bill Kirby, EASILY was the winner.

Nice pics. The vac museum continues to impress me. I'd like to see that Airway signature series in person. The purple color looks slightly different in every picture I see.

I've always said the Vacuum Museum is a tremendous resource for all vacuum collectors. Many of the machines in the museum's collection were placed there by my friends for the enjoyment of everyone. Since it's open all year round, six days a week, we welcome all vacuum collectors whenever they wish to visit.

This is the Eureka top of the line upright, given to the Museum by my friend Frank Morgan. He got it from the trade-in pile at the Kirby Distributor he does repair work for. It's almost completely mint.
