Hi, I have a Rainbow E2 Black with the center belt power nozzle. I recently changed my carpets to a thicker plush pile and now my power nozzle brush roll barely turns when vacuuming. I have changed the belt to the newest one recommended for this model (green writing on belt), have ensured that the brush roll is clear, and have the air inlet on the hose handle fully open... And it is still extremely hard to push and the brush roll is still bogging down and barely turning. There is not a "burnt belt" smell, it just barely turns and is extremely hard to push. I have a D2 with the Eureka style power nozzle that does not have any issues like the newer Rainbow does. I contacted the Rainbow Headquarters and the "tech" on the phone knew less than I did. She said that it probably needs a roller with all beaters"... And this power nozzle does not have beater bars, only brushes.
My question- Is there anything else that I could do to fix the issue, and if not, would the side belt version of this new power nozzle make that much of a difference? I really do not want to spend another 300.00 for a new power nozzle if I do not have to, or if I will have the same issue.

Thank you for your help!!

Does the Rainbow E-series have a height adjustment on the power nozzle?

This version of the E series does not have a height adjustment on the power nozzle.

Rainbow E2 Black Power Nozzle Issues

Any chance you have that new "soft" plush carpeting? I know several people who have bought the new style and they have had HUGE problems getting a cleaner to work on the new style and design.
I had first the middle belt power nozzle with my Black Rainbow and then bought the newer side belt. I really canot tell that much difference. I never had problems with my first power nozzle with the center belt.
I would at least want to try the newer style BEFORE I made the additional investment.
You might want to give Ken Bashford a call. I bought mine from him and he is very good with information about the Rainbow System and service.

I can use either of my power nozzles on some thick area rugs that I have with the backing that prevent the air from going through BUT they are NOT the new soft type of fiber design.
Let us know how you resolve the issue.

If you run the Rainbow on LOW speed, does the power nozzle still get bogged down?

If it does work, can you run the power nozzle on high with the relief valve completely opened?

Ideally, they should have kept the manual height adjustment. I think it would have helped.

by the way, thanks for posting. When it comes time to buy new carpeting, I'll have to be careful.

Hi WilliamR1248 the carpet is not considered "ultra soft", but it is a really thick plush pile.

Hi Ralph123 there is practically no suction on low speed. Low speed is only to "clean the air". I agree, they should have left the height adjustment feature on the new model, I think that would have resolved the issue.

Had I know I would've had this issue, I would have chosen a different type of carpeting...

Thanks for your responses! I appreciate the feedback.

So does opening the pressure relief valve on the hose help any?

I tried again opening up the suction release slider on the hose grip and it is still barely turning.

Hi Hockeydude22 I was hoping to be able to use a rotating brush on the carpet to thoroughly clean the carpet. The carpet is so dense that straight suction without brushes will not clean it. I can use my old D2, but it looks like I will not be able to use my newer rainbow.

Rainbow makes a stiff, regular and soft bristle brush roll for the E2 Black models.

Rainbow007: What you really need is a Kirby G series vacuum. G3 through Avalir.

A Kirby G will have POWER to spare on your super plush carpet. The brushroll will not bog down and there will be awesome airflow and suction as well. There is no canister vacuum electric powered nozzle that can deep clean thick plush carpet anything like a Kirby can.

The Kirby will also have Tech Drive which will make your vacuuming fun instead of a chore.

You could pick up a reconditioned Kirby Sentria for only $350 or a good clean used G3 thru G6 one for $200.

I would think about it I were in your shoes.

I have thick, dense carpet also and have not had any problems with any of my power nozzle vacuums. I used to have a Rainbow E2 but now I use a Lux Guardian Platinum. I would think that the E2 power nozzle should be able to handle your carpet. I would contact a Rainbow dealer and see what they have to say.

More of a density issue, IMHO.

I have a few antique silk Tabriz rugs and the brushroll of every vacuum I ever used would start to bog down and turn slower. These are low pile rugs, but the fiber content is very dense. I especially remember the center belted Rainbow E2 black power nozzle turning slower to the point that the belt would stretch and start to slip.

Rainbow E2 power nozzle issue

My grandmother bought Karastan wall to wall carpet about 20 plus years ago. It was plush and soft.
She tired so many vacuums and nothing worked with a revoling brush. Her Hoover could not be adjusted to the right height. My Kirby had the same problem. Just ate the belt. She also had an Air-Way and it would work with the straight suction tool BUT NOT the power nozzle.
We tried almost every kind of vacuum over the years and nothing worked very well.
In this case the nap was too thick and too soft so the vacuum wheels and nozzle went in too deep into the pile itself and made the machines almost impossible to push.

I hope you can find a solution.
I did upgrade to the second edition E2 with the gear driven power nozzle but even with that I would sure want to try it first before making the investment.

WILLIAMR1248 did you see any difference between the center belt power nozzle and the side belt powernozzle, performance wise?

I read up on the different types of brush rolls and the one that is in the powernozzle now is the "regular" brush roll. I really didn't want a "soft bristle" brush roll because I feel like it would not do a good job picking up pet hair...

Hockeydude22 that would be great if you could find out additional information from your local distributor.

Thanks again everyone for your assistance.

Rainbow E2 power nozzle issue

After reading your post I did get my first ediiton center belt power nozzle out and try it against the 2nd edition side belt gear driven power nozzle.
There is a diffference. In my case and on my carpet the first edition would have served me well but you have a differnt situation. You can tell the 2nd edition has a more powerful motor and different tone and it is gear driven so it does not slow down.
I would want to at least try it before I made the investment.

You might want to try the different brush roll.

As far as a Kirby is concernd. I would want to try it first too. I used to have a Kirby and it worked great until I built this house and had thicker plush carpeting.
What I had happen with the Kirby was it DID have very good suction and air flow
AS LONG AS THE HEPA BAG WAS NEW, but after a few uses and the bag started to get filled, the air flow droped off and I needed to lower the nozzle which made the cleaner no longer adjusted to clean properly and difficult to push.
I think in your case, no one correct or perfect answer but try before you buy anything to see if it will work on your particular carpeting.
