As I read through the small “Instructions for Use and Care” circular booklet for the Electrolux wax mist sprayer (sold as an option with the models B-7 and B-8 triple-brush polishers/scrubbers) it brought to mind how differently many of today's company and individual mindsets operate than those of yesteryear in terms of taking care of items rather than being so quick to discard and replace them.

Here is the “Maintenance and Care” section of the aforementioned instructions. It seems unlikely that Aerus LLC would print such user information today; they’d just as soon have you buy a replacement. Furthermore, do you know someone who would be likely to follow these guidelines rather than just buying a new sprayer?

“Cleaning Nozzle: A coarse or uneven spray pattern usually indicates that the sprayer has not been cleaned properly or that dirt or some other foreign matter has become lodged in the nozzle. In such an event proceed as follows:

1. Unscrew nozzle from sprayer nose (turning counter clockwise).
2. With sprayer still attached to wax bottle, but with nozzle removed, rapidly pull trigger two or three times to forcefully eject liquid from nose.
3. Rinse open nose under fast running warm water and clean exposed parts with soft bristle brush. Spray wax again to assure elimination of any particles that may have entered the nose.
4. Rinse inside of nozzle under fast running warm water. Clean out any solid matter with a soft bristle brush or a corner of a piece of cloth. Do not use a hand instrument or anything that might scratch or mar the inside of the nozzle. Any such marring will ruin the spray pattern.
5. Hold nozzle to light and look through small center hole to see that it is clear. If light does not show through, hold inside face of nozzle close under faucet to force water through the small hole from inside direction. Then if light still does not show sharpen the end of a wooden toothpick to a hairline point and push it through the hole, FROM THE INSIDE ONLY, with a twisting motion. Rinse again and repeat until clear. Then reattach to sprayer.

"Oiling Trigger Assembly:

Should sprayer trigger action stick or become sluggish, the trigger piston may require lubrication.

1. Remove the sprayer from the wax bottle and empty the sprayer if possible.
2. With trigger “up” or facing you, apply a few drops of sewing machine or light engine oil on the trigger piston at the point of entry into the sprayer.
3. Work the trigger assembly vertically and horizontally until the piston action returns to normal. If, despite this operation, the trigger action is still sluggish the intake screen may need cleaning.

"Cleaning Intake Screen:

There is a screen on the end of the intake tube inside the bottle. To clean this screen:

1. Unscrew the sprayer assembly from the wax bottle.
2. Pull the screen holder off the end of the plastic tube.
3. Rinse screen in hot running water, or soak it awhile in hot water mixed with detergent, or in a cleaning fluid. Brushing with a soft brush will aid in cleaning.
4. Replace screen holder on the end of the tube."
