I bought a Hoover model 66 late last year. I've been trying to revitalize the outer bag without much luck. It wasn't terrible but it was a bit stiffer than I like. I know it's probably a tall order, but if anyone knows of a source for another model 584 bag or a 66 bag could someone let me know? I don't think I'm going to be able to save this one. I know good bags are hard to come by considering their age. If I could find one that isn't ripped, has the spring instead of the bag latch and a good zipper, I think that might do. If I find a new one and it's gone hard I think I will wait until the hot part of the summer, put it outside but not in the sun and give it multiple squirts of Vinylex.

I've heard of different ways from different people about the best way to try and soften up an old vinyl bag. I've heard mineral oil, Murphy's Oil Soap, Vinylex and Meguiars vinyl treatment. The Vinylex and Meguiars didn't do much. That's why I thought I'd wait until hot weather, lay it outside and spray it down. If someone has a better idea I'm open to suggestions. Maybe the Murphy's Oil Soap might work. I've still got the bag that was on the machine when I got it. I could experiment on it. I don't think it's going to hold up in the long run though. It's starting to crack where it bends down by the bellows. I got a new bellows and fill tube for it. The old bellows had gone hard and the fill tube was narrower on the end to accept the blower attachment. I think that was part of what was reducing the suction. I also ordered a couple of new top bushing plates but the screw hole configuration is different on them for some reason, so I don't know what I'm going to do with them. Guess I'll hold on to them. Maybe they'll fit a different cleaner someday. I've also been considering rewinding that field coil. Does anyone happen to know what gauge varnished copper wire goes on a Hoover field lamination?

Needless to say, I've got quite a bit of money wrapped up in this thing and it's still setting in the corner. Bring on the 3D copiers or the replicators from Star Trek. LOL.

I have one and I love it! It has a white genuine Slim Hoover bag from the '60s and the cord was shot. I still need to find the original bag, but a cord from a Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 makes a great replacement because its very long and it's the right colour.
