My partner came home from spending the day with his mother and grandmother and said "I need you to take a look at something". So he brings down this Eureka...one of the most pristine looking, unrestored vacuum cleaners I have ever laid eyes on.

This vacuum has been in daily service since 1969, but looks nearly new! I wasn't sure what was more unbelievable, the condition of the cleaner, or the fact that she's still pushing this thing around every day at the age of 91. Walking through her house is like looking at a home decor catalog from the 60's. Not a thing has changed since she bought it all new, and everything looks like the day it was delivered.

Anyway, she had taken the Eureka in to a vacuum shop to have it looked at (there was nothing wrong, she just thought it may need preventative maintenance) and when it came back it started chewing up her carpet and then the belt broke. It turns out the brush roll got flipped to the "worn" side, so I flipped it back to "new". Should be good for another 40 years or so!

That Eureka got a new cord on its winder not too long ago. The triangle plug gives it away.

Ahhh! That's my Holy Grail of vacs now! Now I know the model number....thank you.

Do you know if she has the Tool Caddy that was sold separately for the Vanguard 270?

This is the last Eureka with the tool port in front of the headlight...such a cool modernization of the old 1950's Eurekas.

Here's the TV commercial from 1968:

Yes, apparently the tool caddy was in the closet. As well as the box and receipt!
