Being the ever enthusiastic Concept hunter that I am, I always ask my good friend John Gregory to keep an eye out for them in his day-to-day business. Due to the Mother's Day rush, John had acquired two of my dream machines and was quick to call me to come get them.

1979 Hoover Concept One U3101 and a 1982 Concept One U3105

In addition, John always knows that I'm looking for new and innovative ways to tidy up around the cat box, so he presented me with this beautiful Hoover QuickBroom with power nozzle and a wonderful Eureka to handle the cat hair on the downstairs furniture, and for good measure, a Hoover Flair.

We got two Concept One models in the UK, one with Powerdrive and one without. I had the non Powerdrive version from brand new and managed to get a second hand Powerdrive model years later.

Sadly I don't own either of them any more, but they were excellent cleaners.

John's thoughtfulness never ceases to amaze me. He sent me home with a Mother's Day gift for my mother. He knows how difficult of a time she has using larger, heavier vacuum cleaners so he gifted to her a brand new Windtunnel Air.

She's going to love how easy it is to whiz around the rugs and hardwoods with this marvelous new cleaner from Hoover.

Strikes again your mother will be so pleased with her fine Hoover gift from none other than the Hoover King himself John Gregory of Sweeper Central located in the lovely town of Dunmore Pa.

I just love seeing his store in photos I wish he were closer because I'd be there at least once a week to hang out and learn about Hoover .

John Gregory is an amazing man with a HUGE heart. Kind and wise, with a sense of humor. Congratulations on your new-to-you machines.

The last time I spoke to John, he had me rolling on the floor in stitches. He was telling me about an old maid spinster lady, who was single so long things had haired up and healed over. She apparently lived in what he described as a "mausoleum" or "house of horrors" depending upon what part of the house he was describing. She was a bitter old thing, nasty and vulgar. Apparently, the rugs in front of her commode got 'wet' quite often (did I mention she was old), and she vacuumed up some 'liquid' and couldn't get the "smell" out of her Convertible. But she wanted her HOOVER fixed and was going to make sure he cleaned it thoroughly for her, right then and there. I don't remember what else was wrong, but when it came time to pay up, the old troll gave him a fit over the price of the repair. She was screaming in his showroom about how she didn't have any money and thought he would just accept the fact that she was a retired showgirl as payment. He threw her out of his store with a huff and she's never been back. But remember, the customer is always RIGHT. Not. It's what he said back to her that had me rolling on the floor. John just went back to eating his Stoffer's Mac and Cheese.

Man, I am glad I don't repair HOOVERS for a living any longer.

I vaguely remember watching The Graham Norton Show twice he mentioned on that episode about piss soaked mats...I wonder if it's the same lady?? It was quite funny too I mean when he made mention that the lady had turned a carpet in front of the toilet into a pillow for her couch & I can't remember what the other thing was but it was a hoot!! AND she was proud of it all too!!!

Does she stand and pee ?

How does she get her rug wet in the bathroom ? Better yet why does she have rugs in her bathroom near her toilet ?

I called John last night to ask about the old biddy. John said she looked like she was pregnant but he knew she was way past her prime for that. He said she smelled of hospitals and death. Her wig was on crooked, and she had the potty mouth of a sailor that just wouldn't quit. John had known her previously to this incident and even knew where she lived, but hadn't seen her since her unfortunate accident. She told him she had been on Broadway, but the only thing 'broad' about her was her rear end. I asked John why she was so upset, seeing as how John dropped everything to clean the putrid nastiness out of her machine. He didn't know, but apparently she didn't think she should have to pay for "Hoover Service". She must have been so deluded that she thought any thing her Hoover needed, was free. When John went to make a reasonable charge for his service, she blew her old and withered gasket. "Oh well", I told John. "Those who can - do. Those who can't - teach". In my many years of owning a vacuum cleaner sales and repair shop, I've seen all kinds of people too.

In addition to the fun already posted above, John asked me to revisit some "old friends".

First, we have the 1976 'Bicentennial' Convertible that I gifted to him several months ago. It was in utterly DEPLORABLE condition when it came into my possession. You would swear it had been yanked out of a dumpster. But, after much TLC and many new-old-stock, genuine North Canton Hoover parts, it looks and runs like a brand new cleaner.

Next in line is a near pristine Model 1076 Convertible. I've never seen a better running example. It's entirely original and has been very gently used and exceptionally well maintained in the course of its life. No worn belts, bristles, dry bearings, or replacement lens on this one! Also note the matching Handivac, which is a specimen from 'The Vault'.

Next after that is a BEAUTIFUL early Celebrity from the famous Hoover 'Vault'. This cleaner has never seen dirt, never will see dirt, and is a permanent fixture in the display at Sweeper Central.

What would a 'favorites revisited' post be without a grouping of Hoover 'Rangers'. John, as we all know, is no stranger to the Ranger! Three of them are new old stock cleaners that have only been assembled, but never used to clean. Only in Dunmore can one find such marvelous things!

And finally, my mother was so touched by John's extremely generous present that she baked a beautiful (and delicious!) tray of lemon squares, raspberry meringues, and chocolate toffee bars for him to say thank you. For those of you that don't know, my mother missed her calling in life. She could have owned a very successful bakery. Her mother, my beloved Gram, taught her extremely well.

Wow simply

Gorgeous HOOVERS that John Gregory is "THE" best HOOVER restorer . I heard about that trashy Bicentenial Convertible that Matt so graciously gifted John Gregory now it's back to its former glory .

LOVE ❤️❤️❤️ That 1060 looks brand new wow .

Nothing is better than a Ranger yet alone BRAND NEW Rangers I loved seeing them at my last visit that yes went un-photographed 😜 .

And a "Vault" commercial Hoover wow I think that is the best one I've ever seen not all faded as all those that have been listed on eBay were and no defaced engravings . Those would be reasons to NEVER own one of those HOOVERS . I'd much rather own all my NIB HOOVERS that have never seen the light of day .

Great pictures Matt and John G's store looks amazing as always with all those genuine HOOVERS old and brand new .

Yummy Matt those are the best looking baked goods I have ever seen your mom is amazing wow a great gift .

I was told that this was one of the very last Concepts made, it's from 1992 I think.
