I recently acquired this G.E. Swivel Top from a VCCC club member. The cord winder will not retract. I took the cord winder apart to discover that the coil/spring is broken. Can the this be repaired? Is it possible to solder the broken spring/coil back together and will it hold?

I don't see a solder holding, but maybe the end could be bent to go into the holder, just shortened a touch?

The spring looks like it was riveted into the center hub. It might be possible to reattach the coil to the center hub. It looks like I will have to take out the rivet. I'm really not sure what to do! Was hoping a G.E. expert would have some suggestions!!!!

Just re drill the spring, drill the old rivet out and put in a new pop rivet and you will be good to go.

General Electric and Filter Queen used the same cord winder. If you have an old Filter Queen cord winder, the spring and reel assembly is identical.
