Hello All,
MY phone went off at about 2:30 this afternoon - It was the text from FedEx telling me my package had been delivered - And that package was my New Riccar Prima - First The PIctures, then my feelings - But before any of that is done, I must first give a HUGE THANK YOU to Tom for offering to get one of these for me as soon as they were released… I had been bothering the poor man since they day he showed us the first pictures of the Tacony Wonder over a year ago... |

Hello All,
Once again - A HUGE thank you to Tom… The Prima is a phenominal vacuum... Now that I have had a few hours to give it a quick run around the block, here are my initial impressions… First - The build quality is top notch - Fit and finish is flawless - Paint Job is excellent - screen printing of the text on the vacuum is crisp and clean… Very solid feel - No extra flash to be found on any pieces of the canister… No gaps - All seams are nice and even and flush… Carry handle is the absolute perfect size, and I have large hands… Both filters are very easy to access and remove… The Canister itself is VERY, VERY quiet… Suction is monstrous - The Prima could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch - Nice long cord - The hose is the perfect length, and it seems more them flexible enough for me - Not at all as stiff as my the hose on the Miele's or Sebo's that I have had,,, The vacuum follows you around very well… The hose swivels at the hand grip end, but is fixed on the canister fitting.. But to be honest it did not kink in use, and did not cause any problems… I love the angle at which the hose comes out of the canister… Far enough above to not cause scuff marks on the canister during use…Love the lighted switch on the hose handle as well as the secondary air bleed control on the handle… I ended up keeping the dusting brush on the canister clip - Much more convienient for me in that location… The Electrolux style dusting brush is great… A classic…. The Soft Sweep floor tool does a very job… It got up all the fine dust that was on the floor along with all the larger debris. The Power nozzle is louder then the actual vacuum is, but it is not any louder then an Electrolux power nozzle is… It is not shrill or whiney at all - The triple brush aluminum brush bar did a great job of grooming the carpet, plus this is the fist power nozzle that did not wrap any hair at all around the brush roll… And we have two long hair Rag-doll Cats and a Maltese dog as well… The dirt sensor in a cool thing to have on the power nozzle, but I personally have always thought they were just a little gimmicky… Overall this vacuum addresses and overcomes all the issues I have had a with most of the other canister vacuums I have had… And lord only knows I have been through them all, and some on them more than once !!! I am going to talk to Tom and only want to add two attachments when they become available… I want to get the Handheld Mini Electric power brush (Tom said they were not available yet for the Prima), and I would want to get a horse-hair bare floor brush to use on the walls… The floor tool with the micro filter pad is great for the floors, but a wide bare floor brush is a must have for me for the walls… The handle connecting to the power nozzle is great for large furniture area's, but for the stair treads I prefer the higher control of the smaller hand held power brush… So - In closing for now, Tom should get a big thank you for the hand he had in getting such a great vacuum into production… I am doing my bi-monthly heavy cleaning on Saturday, and will add some more comments after that cleaning is complete… Dan P. |

Congratulations to both Dan's on your new machines!! They look amazing and I really love that shade of blue! I'm looking forward to hearing more about them after they are put through the paces. I'm curious to know how long the cord is? The long hose looks fabulous and I like that it only swivels at the handle end like an Electrolux. I don't have a huge collection and although I don't really "need" another vacuum, I'd still love to have a Prima. I've heard those power nozzles are excellent and would love to try one out in my own home. Happy Vacuuming!

Congrats on the new vacuum and thanks for all the pictures. Is it a variable speed motor or just a suction bleed next to the power switch? Nicholas |

Nicholas - There is a "Suction Relief Dial" on the handgrip itself, and an electronic slide adjustment (Rheostat) on the main canister body of the Vacuum…
Steven - The power nozzle is one of the best I have used in a long time… I had thrown a little rice and some cat litter on the rug, and the power nozzle had it jumping a good 3-6 inches in front of the nozzle… The Triple brush Brushroll really does a terrific job of grooming the carpet pile… Dan |

Hey Rex,
I am sure it is the same power nozzle design… I had the same one on my white simplicity Canister years ago… Our entire main floor upstairs is carpeted, So there really are no thresholds except the one into the kitchen… Which has a swinging doggy gate, So I carry the vacuum in… I really can't comment except to say it goes over its own cord with ease... |

So nice and the ONLY thing that I would want to change is on board tool storage (sort of like what the Kenmore cans has), but other than that, it looks awesome and obviously the tools are miles ahead of the Kenmore tools. Thanks for the pictures and I love the color. I hope to eventually get one of these from Tom.

Hi Tom -
Thank you so much once again - I am sure I will enjoy the Prima… So I won't bother you asking a multitude of times…. Do you have an approximate arrival date for the Hand held mini electric power nozzle that will fit the Prima? Let me know - I want to get one as soon as they are available… Thanks, Dan P. |

At one time, while discussing in another thread about the Riccar Prima, I was asking if the Prima were better than the Mexican-made Kenmore canisters from Sears and Rob (Kirbylux77) recommended me to choose the Prima, the Simplicity Wonder or a Miele and avoid the Kenmore's.
So, Dan, do you think the Prima is really better than any of the Kenmore canisters currently on the market? Would you agree with Rob? |

Hello All,
It is just shy of a year that I have been using my Prima, so I thought I would post an update… Overall, it has been a great vacuum… I have a couple of little nit-picks that have recently come up, so I thought I would share the feedback with everyone including Tom G. (Maybe some suggestions for future changes) – First I will say the canister is great – Powerful and very well built… But in the last month I have started having an issue with the HEPA filter popping out. Actually, I think the polypropylene clip that is molded into the filters housing has started to get weak from heat… I do not think that it is a back pressure issue, because it is sparkling clean… I blow the little dust there is out of the bag compartment every bag change, and then remove the HEPA filter and give it a light blowing out as well. There is really never anything on it… Not even much carbon dust… I notice the issue of the filter popping out happens most often when I am doing the heavy bi-monthly cleaning – During that time I run the vacuum for close to 6-7 hours on and off – Mostly on… The filter housing is warm when it pops loose… The bags could be a better fit - Even when you pack one like a brick (2-long hair rag doll cats and a Maltese dog!!) there is about 2-3 inches of the bag that is folded over near the back of the compartment and never gets filled… Even if you try to expand the bag when you put it in, it ends up folding over as the bag fills… The other little nit-pick is more a personal one – I am not fond of the hose handle – Makes it a little too hard to get into some tight spots with the dusting brush… I think more the reason that I am not fond of it is that there is also too much flex in the thin handle part of the handle that you grip… All the screws are tight, but it has a little twist to it, and it creaks constantly… Maybe more reinforcing ribs in the thin part of the handle? The hose, wand and handle seals have not loosened up much after almost a year, and they are a little tight to pull apart... The only connection that had loosened a little is the wand to power nozzle... that one is great... I know it is better for a tight seal to keep everything air-tight, but I could see people with smaller hands or that do not have a lot of strength possibly having issues... Power nozzle is terrific – I think the Dirt Sensor lights are a little gimmicky, but they came with the better three row aluminum brush roll… Deep cleans the carpet well with lots of agitation… Do not like the tools on the handle - One wrong move and the dusting brush falls off – I usually just keep it on the canister hose clip, and keep the crevice tool in my pocket when I clean… The mini hand power nozzle is my favorite tool… Use it on all the furniture, and stairs… Could not live without it – Love the swivel – Much better tool then the Kenmore or Electrolux Style that is fixed to the hose handle and does not swivel… We have uneven slate in the front hall, and entrance to the downstairs family room – I would rather see the canister come with a proper horsehair bare floor brush instead of the soft-sweep microfiber floor tool… I think it works great on the hardwood floor in the kitchen, and the marble in the bathroom, but it is not the best on the uneven slate floor… I actually have a left over Miele style parquet brush that I use with the Prima do vacuum the slate with… Over all it is a great vacuum for everyday use if you are a canister person… I do not regret purchasing it for one moment, and even with my few issues I would still recommend it to anyone – Great Job Tom & Tacony !!! |
