Was the only vac there of any interest but was worth going! Works superbly, brushes are a bit worn but I have new ones in the shed!

Will make a nice project!

Nice! I used to think these vacuums had beaters :L

Some had beaters and some didn't. At some point in time Electrolux stopped fitting beater bars.

The beaters simply slipped into place instead of one row of brushes (although I suppose you could have had two rows of beaters if you wanted to, not that it would have cleaned much). Given that changing the brushes in the roller was a well-promoted task, and as the brushes usually came in sets of two, I am sure many owners dispensed with the beaters. I have seen these types of cleaner of all ages with or without beaters. I think Electrolux stopped using beaters when they changed to the Twin Turbo style of cleaner.

The 506 is a very rare machine. It replaced the 504 around 1980, but was then replaced very quickly by the almost identical 560.

Yep, this one has a row of beaters and a row of brushes.

1980 you say, thanks!

I did but since then I have checked through my papers and found a Which? report from April 1981, where the 504 is still on test, and comments to say "so to be replaced by the 506". So I was a year out.

Good carboot find, glad the season has started again!

Went to one yesterday at the supermarket car park and went to one with Joe today. Picked up a 90s Panasonic Cylinder & a Hoover Turbolite. Turbolite untested yet but the Panasonic works great!

Thank you Beko.

Another discovery. Which? magazine from May 1984. Their "best buy" upright is the Electrolux 560. No mention of the 506 at all, and no mention about the 560 being a new model. So it is fair to say 506 enjoyed a production run of less than 3 years. I suspect considerably less in fact.

She's all done, and sold already to another collector which is fantastic news!

I do like 500s, but haven't got the room to start collecting them now! Happy to have them pass through my hands and wave some magic over them though...
