This Royal 786 has been in my basement for a couple of years. I have been "borrowing" parts off of it to compete other restorations and I finally decided to pay back the parts loans and get it going. It still needs some serious polishing but looks and runs great. Does anybody know the story of these Prince and Prince II models? Were they regular models sold through all of the dealers or a special limited model? I have a blue Prince II bag that Ben recognized as a replacement for an older 880 I have. Ben I believe you also have a 786 too?

Mike,

Yes, I do. I bought mine for $20 from Evan Baier. Unlike yours, mine has both the period-correct Adjust-O-Rite plate (black pull tab) and a replacement nine-blade metal impeller fan.

Yours has a slightly incorrect AOR plate (which would be the correct one for your 1986 618 as I mentioned earlier on another one of your Royals) but may have the original six-blade impeller fan.

The serial number on my 786 is I87B001554, which translates to it being made in September 1987. What is the serial number on yours, please? Thank you!

~Ben

Ben

My serial number is C87A001178 (March 1987). I have both red AOR belt covers and I switchd them so that both are now correct. I have the 6 blade fan.

Mike,

Yours was made in March 1987.

Here's what little I might know regarding the Prince and Prince II uprights: these were likely replacements for the Electro-Hygiene model 903 and the Galaxie Prestige model 790 (?) respectively. The blue Prince II upright is a model 870, which also has a 5.4 amp motor.

The 870 is not owned by me, but I have found this pictures of one from a past eBay auction.
