Goblin Regal

To be quite honest its been so long since I took it apart I can't remember which motor is in.

I think you are pretty close on the age of that Goblin. According to a pamphlet I have the first cylinder machines that the British Vaccum Cleaner Co. made was around 1923-25 and called the Turbinet (Says the first upright was 1921 and the first cylinder a few years later). In 1926 the whole range of cleaners was put under the trade name "Goblin". So it cant be previous to 1926. At the same time I have picked up copies (on the net) of these two Goblin ads. One is merely dated 1920's but the second is dated 1928. By 1931 it had been replaced in ads by the Clean Sweep, Magic Wand and Reliance, which were themselves replaced by the Ace and Triumph. I find it intersting that the Wizard was sold for such a long period though, running through both sets of brochures and up into the late 40's.

Wonder if we could start a photo section in the collections that anyone could add to but be just Goblin for reference?

Checkrate/Likes Hello, I think this will be of most interest to our UK Members; A fellow vintage vac collector friend who lives on the Welsh coast (Barmouth), tells me that his local salesroom/junk shop has a 'presentable' goblin regal in at the moment. Is it of any interest to anybody....don't think it would cost much as the regal is not to everyone's taste ?

Checkrate/Likes Wish I was there but shipping would cost a fortune (I love the old Goblin Machines but they are very hard to find around here even though they were sold in Canada)

Checkrate/Likes Hello Douglas, The cost of shipping,even over here can out-weigh things ! I have seen the photo's of your machines and I have admired them,including of course your Goblins. The 'Major' is a rare beast.....anywhere ! Does it have the 'Ace' 3-fan type motor ? A close vintage vac friend of mine has a mint boxed 'Triumph' and a very rare goblin; long and similar dia to a lux Z5/11, maroon leatherette, die cast end fittings with the motor cowling almost separate/protruding from the end: a slide type switch being located on the motor. No trace of a model no; the top plate reads:'the goblin electric cleaner': the bag end lid is held on by two levers/screws, no bakelite hose connector just a hole in the casting. 190 watts.I feel this little gem dates from 1926 - 31, what do you think ?
