Here are some photos of Kirby boxes from the 514 to 2HD I found online (missing 515, 561):

Wow! Wouldn't it be nice to have all the machines to go with them?

Hi Paul. Nice of you to share pics of your boxes.

The box pattern you have labeled as 519 as is also shared with the 560. The one you have for the 560 is the one used on the 561.

rarest ?

How long would the Her II atts (16) have been in cardboard before the molded plastic caddy?

Jimmy,

The original cardboard attachment box for the Heritage II ran between approximately September 1984 and August 1985.

The "Kirby Kaddy" replaced that in September 1985. Some of the attachments also had a sparkled look as opposed to the smooth finish of the originals.

Thanks for your reply, James. I appreciate the correction and am hoping that others will add to what I found.

Occasionally I'll see Kirby boxes at garage sales or secondhand stores, so I wanted a quick reference.

I'm hoping to find a DS50 set of boxes. I do have a tool cabinet but it's in rough shape; and it would be nice to have a complete set.

Here's the 515 box pattern & color:

Correction ... #7 in the photos of my initial post is actually a Sanitronic VII box. Below is a 562, Sanitronic box with a yellow pinstripe instead of a wide stripe. Also, the Sanitronic lettering on the 562 box is cursive like on the 562 & Sanitronic Vii bag caps. The Sanitronic VII's Sanitronic lettering has the stylized S and italic letters.

511 Box (possibly the same box colors and printing used for the 510):

515 & Classic 1CR Box Pattern

I forgot to mention that the 515 and Classic 1-CR boxes have the same "fur" pattern--just different colors. I thought that was interesting, because of the 15-year timespan in between the two models.

Other backgrounds that I know of that have the same background pattern or color are:

- the 516 & 517 - tan & white tartan
- the 519, 560, and 561- repeated small, gold Kirby logos
- the 514 & 518 - linen
- 2CB & 3CB - white
- Heritage II & Heritage II Legend, & Legend II - grid with diagonal repeating Kirby stripe
- GSix, GSix 2000 LE, GSix 2001 LE - coal with yellow cotton fibers

Classic Omega - early examples had a dark-toned woodgrain box (1973-1974) but most examples (starting from serial no. P000001) used the lighter-tone version of the same box.

Paul,

I wanted to say that the 505 had the maroon cardboard "Kirby Kabinet" attachment box starting in 1947.

Ben (or anyone),

Thanks for the info.

Do you know what the 512 box and pattern/colors were?

The 512 boxes were likely similar to the 509-511 boxes (maroon with silver Kirby circle graphic).

That was quick! Thanks, Ben.

I just picked up a free 512 with the original bag from a guy on Craigslist. I'm hoping to eventually trade it for an original 560 bag and attachments, so if I see the attachments I'll grab them to make it more complete.

Ben,

Do you know if there is any difference between the 511 and 512 attachments?

Here are photos of Kirby cabinets posted by eBay sellers. The first three are of the 509 version--the color and design may have also been used for some previous models. I discovered that the manufacturer's certification stamp on the back sides of the cabinets give the last 2 digits of the year of manufacture (see the third photo below--I ovaled the "49".

The last two photos are of a 512 cabinet (note the "52" on the manufacturer's certification stamp). Compare the lettering on each logo, and you can see subtle changes such as the pointed end of the K's leg on the 509 version and the blunt end of the leg on the 512's, Also, the crotch on the 509 K has an open loop, and the 512's does not. In case you thought I just made up those terms I included a structure diagram of the letter K--haha

The first box I see may have come with a 509 but the Kirby logo on it still looked as it did for the 508.

Ben. I thought the logo's text was changed with the 510. Thanks for the correction.

Ohio Boxboard Company Trivia

From the City of Rittman, Ohio's homepage:

The discovery of salt deposits in Rittman in 1897 led to the founding of Wayne Salt, which later became Ohio Salt. In 1948, Ohio Salt became Morton Salt - today one of Rittman's major employers. E.J. Young, who started the salt company, needed a way to package both his salt and his matches, which were made in nearby Wadsworth. Young formed the Ohio Boxboard Co. in 1903. That company became a major employer also, bringing to town many new employees and helping business grow. Ohio Boxboard was acquired by Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) in 1965, then Rittman Paperboard, boasting of over 1200 employees at it's prime. Sadly, Rittman Paperboard closed it's doors in early 2006.

_______

I'm unsure whether the Ohio Box Company manufactured all the Kirby cabinets/attachment cases, because I looked on the Classic III case for the manufacturer's certification stamp on the outside and couldn't locate it. That makes me wonder if Kirby produced its own cases after the Sanitronic era.

Apparently, Kirby must have sourced its own boxes starting with the Dual Sanitronic 80 since I could not find any mention of Ohio Box anywhere on the packaging for either the tool set for that machine or the Classic Omega.

What is that beautiful GREEN kirby???
Awww son of a crapsnack!
I swore I wasn't going to collect vacuum cleaners!
"All I need is the one." I said.
And I really believed it too. (The wife,... did not.)
Wait. I can rationalize this.
We'll be more likely to vacuum regularly if we have one in each room.
Right?
*blink-blink*

Kirby Attachment Boxes

When browsing on E-Bay; I have never seen boxes for the floor polisher from the 562 model to the D-80 . Did they even exist with these models?

Hey

lesinutah's profile picture
I have both models.
They come with rug rennovator. I'm not sure 562 had a rug rennovator. I believe it did but I can post d80 box later. The 562 I'm not sure I have a box for. It would be like d50 but white and tan instead of all tan.
Les

Hey

The 562 would look like second pic but box would be like pic 1 but tan and white. The shampooer would look like pic 4 but it would be tan. The box for d80 is dark green on light green like box in pic 1.
