Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum, and also somewhat new to modern vacuum cleaners. I just bought a used shark rocket vacuum, because I used a friends and was impressed by the portability and how it easily switches from rugs to wooden floor. My older vacuum is the CMS 2000, which does great on carpets, but if I run the unit over a hard floor, say coming off a rug it just blows the material I want to pick up all over. So I am happy the shark picks up dirt rather than dispersing it. Also it's great for tight spots and not clunky like the 2000.

Anyway I do want to keep the 2000. I got it from a thrift shop dirt cheap, maybe 8 years ago. It's somewhat beat up. I am wondering if the motor should be taken apart, cleaned and the brushes checked? Is there a chance of burning out the motor if this is not done? I notice motor brushes aren't listed on the clear trak parts and service site. Does this mean they never need changing? I do pull things apart and most times put them back together. I have an old belt sander that the shop told me wasn't worth fixing, so I was gratified that I was able to replace the brushes and buff the commutator and away she went. I am wondering if the 2000 needs this. I can see through the vent that the commutator is dirty, but can't tell about the brush wear.

One thing I'm wondering about, if I do take this apart is how to get those caps or clips off that hold the wheels on? I am afraid tthat I will break them and not be able to replace them, or replace them with difficulty. I have broken my share of fasteners so I try to leave that to others now.

Apart from this maintainence work, I am interested to see posts about Clear Traks and CMS 1000 vacuums, but nothing on CMS 2000. I do live in New Zealand, so this is a 240 volt model. I can't see a manufacturing date but there is a copyright date of 1991. How is this machine related to the Clear Trak and the CMS 1000?

Thanks for any comments, Al

Yes, it looks the same except I can't see a carpet height adjustment on the photo vacuum but the photo is fuzzy through there. Also on my vacuum the upper blue part inside the dust bin doesn't have skirt on it where it starts to narrow down. I know my vacuum, the CMS 2000 looks like a CMS 1000 and a clear trak. I'm not sure if it's just the name, or if there are other differences as well.

Thanks for the welcome and the photo!
