~ Very nice! My Grandma had a Bissell "Grand Rapids" sweeper, probably from the 1930s. It was the only floor cleaner of hers that she'd let me play with when we visited. The brush housing was dark greenish-gray with an ornate gold emblem across the top of it. She had a pink G.E. Swivel Top and also a G.E. hand vac. I was afraid of the hand vac because it would shoot sparks when the metal nozzle hit the metal grate of their in-floor heater vent. She had a Kirby once upon a time that I never saw. I used to see a can of Kirby Moth Crystals sitting on a table in their den and my Grandpa had a gray Kirby cord with the large round end that he used as an extension cord. I asked Grandma one day what happened to the Kirby she used to have. She said she never did like it because it was too heavy and noisy so she gave it to the church where Grandpa was the pastor. My next thought was trying to devise a plan to get us over to that church so I could look for that Kirby! I have a carpet sweeper now that I really love and it's quite rare. It was also an eBay find, and is practically new. I am pretty sure Bissell manufactured this sweeper for Electrolux as it is identical in appearance and function to some of the Bissell models and sounds just like them -- that merry "rorrrt-rorrrt" sound the brush roller makes. |
