Hey guys, I had a customer bring in an Electrolux Legacy canister vacuum today at work. This one was made within the past ten years and was in pretty good shape. The customer was not to happy about the power of the unit and was wanting something with a little more suction power. Any way, I had the canister up at the counter and was testing it out, come to find out the hose was completely smashed in the middle and the hose was clogged. I pointed this out to the customer, but she still wanted something else. So I powered on the vacuum and it ran fine minus no suction through the hose. Later on the day, I decided to clean it up and get it looking pretty decent. I changed the bag and the after filter, plugged up the hose and powered it on and as soon as I would obstruct the suction the unit would shut off and indicate a full bag. I checked to make sure the bag was in place and tried again. Same result, with the tiniest amount of suction drop, the machine shuts off. I even made sure the dial on top was set to the highest setting.

I started looking around the bag compartment and discovered the safety switch that disengages when there is no bag in place. However it was controlling the bag full indicator instead. I brought the unit home and compared it with another Epic 6500. On the unit that works fine, the switch operates the no bag indicator. On the other unit, it is controlling the full bag indicator. I am trying to see what may be wrong with the unit as I would like to get it operational. I have a spare Epic that has functioning parts. Does anyone know what may be wrong or do I just have a confused Electrolux? Any help is appreciated.

Mine did the same thing and......

It was the control valve under the knob to select the size particles you are picking up. If you have one that you can take off another machine....or they sell them on ebay.

I had a feeling it might be the control valve. I will try replacing that and see if that gets me anywhere.

So after replacing the control valve the unit runs perfectly now. Thanks again for your help.
