Since you're in Europe, I would highly recommend looking at SEBO and Miele. Both are German manufacturers. Miele predominately offers canister/cylinder cleaners. SEBO offers both uprights and canisters/cylinders.
Both are very quiet, extremely durable, excellent performers, and offer hospital grade filtration. |

If you are looking for an upright and have no budget restrictions I would recommend a Kirby Avalir or a Riccar Radiance which is a Tandem Air vacuum. Both of these machines are the highest performance vacuums you can buy and both have excellent filtration. The Kirby is available in 220 volts but you will need a transformer for the Riccar, but it's well worth it. |

But how much would a Rainbow cost? You can get a Felix or Miele S8/C3 for around £200 Oh sorry Tom my mistake money no object. Try a Rainbow if you like but personally I'd go for Sebo or Miele. |

I'm not entirely sure about Europe but Rainbow's pricing is fairly consistent in almost all the markets they sell to. |

I'd go down the Miele route personally. Purely because of the high filtration level and the self sealing bags. Go for one with the HEPA filters. Bagless vacuums like Dysons for anyone with allergies would be a big mistake. Regardless of how easy they are to empty, the user inevitably comes into contact with the dust and risk trigger allergies.
Miele and Miele parts and spares are widely available across Europe. A big upright like a Kirby would be far too big for day to day use in a European apartment. |

"The best current production vacuum money can buy" that could be discussed and debated forever and a day. Especially on here!
I would stay away from water filtration vacs unless you are able to try one out for yourself as there are a few downsides to them and don't suit everyone. (Constantly changing the water and cleaning the water pan as well as not sucking up large amounts of plaster/fine dust quickly) if you was doing home renovations etc. I do own two Rainbows by the way. Not that I'm keen on them. Also the spares/service in Europe for Rainbow (for example) are allot harder to find than in the USA. Also allot of the of the new water systems like Rainbow are sold via "Direct Sales" just like Filter Queen,Tristar,Kirby etc and will have a RRP over £2000 or Euros if your in Europe. Not that that's necessarily a problem and you should be able to negotiate the price down.
If you want something more affordable go to a department store or specialist vacuum cleaner shop and try a few out for yourself like Sebo,Nilfisk etc.
I hope you find something that you like.

If you have breathing difficulties, then any bagged vacuum will be good for you.
Whilst there is Miele, and dependent on where you are in Europe, another good brand is Rowenta. Sadly they don't sell many of their models in the UK but they do well in other countries with plenty of spares such as filters and bags. |

That's all very well regarding the dust at the bottom of the bin, what about the dust that gets stuck at the top of the filter shroud? You keep jiggling the canister and its going to disturb dust. Leave it in the shroud and it will just build up again until you're faced with the same problem of the dust that gets stuck at the top of the shroud.
Bagless is hopeless for anyone with a dust allergy. End of. |

Happy Birthday Narayan! Hope you had a great day so far PS new Dysons now have the mesh screen instead of a shroud ;) it means less dust gets past the shroud and less build up of debris |

I would avoid bagless vacuum cleaners like the bubonic plague if I were you! You can talk about "hygienic bin emptying" features to me until you're cobalt in the face, but at the end of the day you still have to deal with crap flying out of the bin and back into the atmosphere. At least with a bagged machine, everything stays inside the bag -- and some bags even seal themselves up when you remove them from the machine.
(Please don't get me wrong -- I'm not bashing anything here. I love some of the bagless machines, and have a few myself. I just don't think they'd be the best solution to this particular problem.)
Anyway, I concur with what Matt (PoconoVacMan) and many others have said: look into a Miele or a Sebo. Also, since you're in Europe you may have access to Bosch. They have some really good machines like the GL-30 cylinder (model BSGL3180GB/03) - although that model probably isn't available any more 'cause of the new EU power restrictions (it's got a 1600W motor). Nonetheless, a Bosch would also be a good choice.

The shark lv800 is the best hand vac. I'll attach a picture. I have the riccar squire and about 15 other handvacs. This is the best handvac for the price. The Riccar price runs over $100 and there awesome.
