Well, I finally joined after a couple weeks of using the site. I've loved vacuums since I was a kid. This winter's been super cold, so my lawnmower projects have been put on hold. Anyway, I picked up a few machines. I got a Royal 501, a Royal 885, and a Hoover Concept One (not power-drive). The Royal 501 is polished and all done. The 885 will get a complete restoration. The pictures show how scratched the nozzle is. The Concept One was clogged. It got a new bag and belt. That one might go up for sale soon. Thanks for the great forum!

Welcome to VacuumLand!

I see the 885 you have appears to be a 1989, 1990 or early 1991 model going by the decal placed below the Adjust-O-Rite, which reads: "ROYAL - HEAVY DUTY COMMERCIAL QUALITY."

If this machine was built February 1990 or earlier, it would have the 6-blade fan (motor series letter code: A) but if it was built later that month or thereafter through March 1991, then it will have the 9-blade fan (motor series letter code: B).

Beautiful 501!

I picked one of those up at a thrift shop a few weeks ago. Mine's not quite as pretty as yours, though. They're super little machines, much, much better than the later plastic ones.
