I rebuilt this vacuum cleaner. I am 15 and new to this site. How does it look. Any interesting information about it?

Looks like you did a pretty good job! I always liked that style of hood.

Welcome to Vacuumland, Spencer--looks like you'll fit right in with your talent of vacuum cleaner restoration ... your cleaner looks awesome!

A search for "U4371" on the Vacuumland search engine took me to other threads (discussions) which included the sell sheet below originally posted by Constellation86. Although I couldn't find exact years of production, several guessed that it was from the mid- to late-'80s. They also mentioned that it was a basic model (less features than the more expensive models).

Happy "Hoovering"!

It feels great knowing that another person my age has the same vacuum interests as I do. Great job on the Convertable also!

Welcome! Great spec sheet there, too. Yes, a great little "simple" "Convertible".... one of the last. They would stop not TOO long after that. You've done a great job. Keep it up. If you have any questions, no doubt someone in here, maybe a few WILL have your answer.
Now, you need a set of attachments! Oh, and remember to use GENUINE HOOVER bags!
John

Wow, great work!! That machine was the absolute bottom of the line, not even having a height adjustment. I've never one like that in person, only the spec sheet. It would be a good machine to hang on to just for the rarity of it.
Welcome to VacummLand!!

Well guys looks like the new generation has risen to follow in our steps.

At 15 I remember taking vacuum cleaners apart until early in the morning hours, cleaning and re assembling them.

Looks like a great job done. What does the motor compartment look like? Cosmetically it looks great, with a shine covering the hood, I am extremely happy another Hoover was saved as a member above has mentioned.

Well Done.

Welcome to the site.smile You've done a great job on that Hoover.

Always nice to see vacuums once they've been restored. Especially when you have before and after pictures.

Thank you every one. I work at a vacuum store and see stuff like this come in. I always take it and clean it up. Some I sell and a few I keep. I do not have much space otherwise I'd keep them all. Here is a pic under the motor cover. I do all of it by myself including the buffing. I will upload more if you guys want when I get a chance. I like the old but I still love my miele salsa that I bought. My mom asks why I have the passion and I don't know. I tell her it is better spending money on this than other things teens buy now a days.

Hey Spencer. Welcome to vacuumland. I'm a new member too. You do a great job - compliment! It's nice combining hobby & work! The Hoover looks splendid again!

When I was a child I was asking all the people what vacuums they have. I wanted to know everything like what brand, type, color, old or new or even if they make loud noise etc. haha.. Since today I don't know from where this vacuum passion comes from.

I'm not a collector, I try to buy or to own as less as I can - knock on wood! But I have 2 Miele vacuums. One is 12 years old and I'm using it in the garage for cleaning my car (an old SAAB 900). The other Miele is for cleaning mine and my partners appartement. Miele vaccums are very solid, powerful, ergonomic and the german manufacture is excellent.

Two weeks ago, I bought 2 Hoover junior de luxe 1354a as a restoration project - one junior is already finished. I will post some photos soon. Unfortunately, the other one is not in a really good condition. Maybe I'll keep this one as a spare part spender. Since I can remember, the Hoover junior 1354a has always been my all time favorit upright vacuum cleaner. I adore the design, color and noise haha...

This or next weekend, I'll buy a new Nilfisk GM 80, my all time favorit "not upright" vacuum cleaner (what is the english word?). Danish design from its best haha... Cheers guys!

I had one pretty much just like that except it had a mint green motor cover. Is your chassis metal or plastic? Mine was metal. My parents bought it new in the early '70s and passed it down to me in the late '80s. I kept it about 10 years and then gave it go Goodwill when I was moving and needed to lighten my load. I kind of regretted getting rid of it but I liked my grandmother's orange Eureka canister better so I decided to keep it over the Hoover.

I've never seen a Hoover with no height adjustment before. How well does it work on different carpets?

Gorgeous Restoration!!!!

jaker15's profile picture

Nice job! I have yet to restore a vacuum to such great shape, and I'm only 16! That hoover looks incredible! I noticed that you have a CWP brush roll installed, I've heard horror stories about those aftermarket rollers burning out the motor if you use them too long. I would look for an original Hoover Convertible agitator with the steel beater bars to use in this machine. If you have no luck finding one on eBay or somewhere else, let me know, I have one I could send to you, or you could always talk to John Long (Gottahaveahoove). He's the resident Hoover Guru here. :)

Like I said, awesome restoration! That Hoover will serve you well for many years to come!

You obviously are very intelligent. I'll be turning 17 tomorrow and I STILL wouldn't get a Convertible quite to that state. I am going to try to "observe" at my vac shop this summer. Very nice later Convertible.

installs a faulty brush roll and we hear about it forever. Sorry if that was you but..
OEM Hoover brush rolls are on Ebay often enough so there is that option, but i have heard this CWP story *second hand* so many times it is ridiculous. When it was first posted, as i recall, many others questioned if the individual had any idea what he was doing. And i don't remeber his answer(s) being very encouraging.
People get downright superstitious about this stuff and it's ridiculous.
Same thing in the world of high fidelity sound..one crazy expensive tweek or sound enhancment product after another with no A / B comparison data to back any of it up. All in the wallet of the salesman...err head of the listener.
Just saying if you want to keep your Hoover OEM by all means have at it, but unless you own a shop and have had reapted problems with the CWP on the Convertible and have spoken to other shop owners who have the same issue then all we have is a singular case that keeps making the rounds.

You may now return to your regular schedule program, had this been an actual emergency...

"Happy Birthday". Watch every repair you can. I don't use the CWP brushrolls. They ARE good, but, I'm a purist. Also, I hear they're fine in the newer, plastic base vacs with STRONGER motors. Try and look up that conversation in here. You'll be able to 'eavesdrop" on the whole thing.
Best of luck.
I may have an extra 'regular' beaterbar brushroll. I'll have to attack my stash of parts.

Here's my Liberty Bell Convertible; the Liberty Bell pattern is printed inside the outer bag.

I found a genuine HOOVER 4-brush bristles only roller; but it costs $129.63!

My uncle found one like at the top. It was in a barn at my grandpa's place. No chord, brlt, or bag. Half the fan was missing. We jimmy-rigged the cord and it was loud, andd shook alot while putting out smoke. It got picked before the garbage man even came
