MY GRANDMA'S VACUUM SCARED THE WORLD!
a children's poem by Rick J. Terrell

My Grandma's vacuum scared the world,
in nineteen fifty nine;
With just a click it roared to life,
On children it would dine.

It's face was angry at the world,
as vacuum faces go;
The bag would fill with vicious air,
the eerie headlight glowed.

It's teeth were hid beneath its base,
of gleaming chromed me'tal;
A beater-bar of carpet pain,
if in its path I fall.

It seemed to search for smaller prey,
the unsuspecting ones;
I'd perch myself upon the couch,
while Grandma made her runs.

It huffed it puffed it steamed it rolled,
beneath my little feet;
It kept on nudging 'gainst the chair,
to drop some crumbs to eat.

My hair it stood upon my neck,
as all my wits had fled;
The tale goes that Kirby vacs,
can find you in your bed.

I bid my time I played it safe,
should live to make age three;
The appetizers I called toes,
are still a part of me.

After all was said and done,
my Grandma saved the day;
She tapped the switch she pulled the plug,
she put the vac away.

Hahaha! My thoughts immediately went to my parents' Kirby DS 50 which grumbled and howled on our avocado green carpet.

No worries, though, as I was more annoyed than scared that it disturbed our TV's reception and made all that racket!

Mahalo nui loa for posting!

YES INDEED, GREW UP FROM THE AGE OF 2 WITH A KIRBY 517. MOM HAD THAT VACUUM TILL IN THE 80'S & SOLD IT. I HAVE MY OWN NOW & MANY OTHER KIRBYS & RELIVE THE KIRBY VACUUMING MARATHONS MOM WOULD DO ON FRIDAYS. I LOVED IT WITH THE HOSE ATTACHMENT ON. HEARING THE MOTOR TONE GO UP & DOWN AS SHE VACUUMED THE FURNITURE & SEE THE BAG BOUNCE HAS JUST BEEN SOMETHING I'VE LOVED & STILL DO TO THIS DAY. THEY WILL BE IN MY HEART FOREVER.

Which was scarier? Grandma's vac, or Grandma's car??

Thanks for the kind replies on my poem, 'Grandma's Vacuum Scared the World'. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Turns out, it was rather theraputic for me to write it as well! My Grandma also owned an old Buick Eight that she kept parked out in front of her place. It scared me almost as much as her vacuum! I think you will see why! (can you say TEETH!) I'm afraid some folks that keep scary vacs, also keep scary automobiles!!! Yikes!!! Just walking by this as a parked car scared the living daylights out of me. Again, I never really told anyone about it. I was too embarrassed. I chose to live quietly in my own private horror. Here's to old Kirby Vacuums, and old Buick's! These are what nightmares are made of!
