Finally got my new Kirby 100th Anniversary Avalir today thanks to my Kirby dealers Dennis and Karen Vahle in East Dubuque, Illinois phone 563-495-1176. It is a beautiful machine and worth the wait. Has tons of new features, example the new carrying handles, rounded wheels like vintage models had etc. Here are some photos!

Congratulations on your new Kirby Avalir! Very sharp machine, & I hadn't noticed the rounded wheels before. Do they help improve the Kirby's handling much when using it?

Welcome to Vacuumland, & looks like you have an impressive collection already! I'm sure you will get along just fine here :-)

It's a great looking machine. I have only two questions. Is there ANY side to side play in the handle, and since I see Sentria in one of the pictures,.....how does it feel working with it, in comparison to Sentria?

Those early eBay sales should be stopped.

Because of the fact this model is brand new, to buy the Avalir online at this point in time is against Kirby's sales policy, for warranty reasons and all that.

Kirby is strictly a door-to-door operation.

I am guessing mine will come sometime this week.Talked to the man on Sat he was saying he was going to come to my area this week. He's about a hour and half or two hour drive from me-and he has to get the shampooers. He wanted to bring my Avalir and shampooer together. He was saying the shampooers came on a later shipment. Will continue to wait-and with bad weather forecast for my area this evening thru tomorrow-who knows. To sum up he was saying my Kirby was on his truck with others ready to be delivored.

While I understand your point of view, you are assuming that these are DEALERS selling the Kirby Avalir on Ebay. What if this is a private individual who got pressured by a door-to-door salesman who hounded them for hours & they had to buy to get rid of them? How else would you suggest they unload this unwanted vacuum without getting taken to the cleaners & get maximum dollars for it? There's nothing wrong with a person selling their own possessions on Ebay. And besides, personally I would prefer NOT having a door-to-door salesman in my home if I could avoid it, & would have no problem giving up the warranty if it was a good brand that could be trusted.

I agree with you 100%. I also know that sometimes dealers who work for distributors are paid for large volume of 'weekend' sales with a 'free' Kirby that the dealer can sell for whatever he wants. It's a "prize". Most times, the winning dealer will put it on eBay.

I can see NO good reason NOT to buy a new Kirby on eBay.

Love that Kirby

Thank you so much for showing us really nice. Would you mind telling me what you paid for that? Welcome to the club Doug

Rob & Dysonman are right!

As much as I admire the Kirby product, there are too many dealers out of control, engaging in predatory practices. I get sick when I see people shelling out $2000 or even $3000+ for these machines. If we can get them on Ebay for MSRP or less, there's not a thing wrong with it. Besides, it's a Kirby. I've never missed having a warranty!

Those two avalirs didn't last long on eBay. In a month, there will be 50 of them for sale on ebay

Thanks! And you're right, that never occured to me when I posted that these Kirby's could also be salesman's prizes that they choose to sell on Ebay.

I personally have disliked door-to-door salesmen since 2000....I had just bought a Fantom Cyclone XT about 2 weeks prior, when a Filter Queen salesman leaves his card in my mailbox, saying I have won a "prize". Call them, find out it was Filter Queen, & book the demo. When the guy arrives, demoing the Filter Queen Limited Edition, within 5 minutes of setting up the vacuum he lies & claims it's "dual cyclonic" & does the steel ball trick, trying to convince me how much power it has if it can move those steel balls. Well, putting down some baking soda & carpet deodorizer put his Filthy Queen to shame REAL QUICK....within 45 minutes, he was humiliated that a "lowly Fantom" such as mine beat his beloved vacuum he wanted $2,400 for! And he left real quick after that! :-) Never did get the prize though.

Jeschbac: "As much as I admire the Kirby product, there are too many dealers out of control, engaging in predatory practices. I get sick when I see people shelling out $2000 or even $3000+ for these machines." Hold on a minute....You do realize that the MSRP on the Kirby box is likely what Kirby would want if they sold the product themselves direct to consumer, right? I would bet good money they aren't counting in the cost of running the distributor's office or salesman's commission in their MSRP. Both of those factors add to the increased cost when you buy door-to-door. Everybody has to make some money at it. And personally, I wouldn't mind a bit paying $2,000 or $3,000 for a Kirby if there was no other option, or I wanted new & wanted the warranty. These cleaners, as well as most other door-to-door makes are worth EVERY PENNY you spend on them....a much better option to go this route & have a machine last for 30 years than Chinese-made garbage sold in Walmart.

That Avalir is a gorgeous piece of hardware. I like that they've rounded off some of the traditionally knife-edged lines of the earlier G-series machines. Makes it look a bit more like Kirby's earlier machines. Maybe I'll get one in 20 years or so when the price comes down.

I had a roommate, back in my youth, who sold Rainbows. The funny thing was he always talked about how great that machine was but never seemed inclined back up his words and show me by doing some vacuuming around our house with his machine, much less my lime green and tan Hoover Convertible that I had at the time.

I quite disagree

Kirby MSRP allows for a reasonable profit for the sales force. They buy these machines from Cleveland for far less than the MSRP stated on the box. Besides, MSRP is already quite expensive, but if honest dealers honored that amount, their sales would no doubt increase rather than trying to get $2500 - $3000. In other words, volume of sales would increase, and I'll just bet the overall Kirby reputation would improve....

Congrats on a quality machine! I am not a HUGE Kirby fan, but I have respect for those who are huge fans. They are GOOD vacuums. I DO like the new black color, but agree that it's "macho" scheme may turn off some buyers. If I bought a new Kirby (or most other high end vacuums) I certainly wouldn't pay more than $1000 for one.

You can usually just offer $900 in cash and they'll take it. Sometimes less if they haven't made a sale In awhile. That's what I did when I picked up my avalir the other day.
