Well Hi all I stopped by an estate sale the other day and had to get this poor Hoover 63 -- it looked to be in good condition and was tucked away in the basement behind the heater...

Seems to work just fine

 and is a nice addition to the other Hoovers I have. I have passed on a few others that are similar as they were in such poor condition, but I have never seen this blue one... It works great and so well built.

I don't think I will do much to this, it is not like new but not bad enough to repaint, etc. A little patina is okay for a machine this old unless it is trashed. I have looked through the archives on this with much interest, it looks like I can see SEP 30 1961 on the bottom, does this sound right? The number is A5441523. if someone has some additional info I would be most appreciative...

But here is a question for you, Here is the attachments that were with it... the carry case is a little damaged, I wonder if anyone out there has a good photo of what it looks like so I can repair this one and put the parts in the right place. It also came with the hose, it was mostly complete and pretty low use. I haven't taken it apart to try to lubricate it like I did with the 28s but it still seems to work great. I have bags that will fit it but am using the bag that came with it, amazing, don't know the last time it was used. Thanks for looking, Brian

Nice find Brian! The 63 was manufactured about 1953 if my memory serves me correctly. The 1961 stamp on the bottom would indicate a service date from a vacuum shop. I believe it uses a specific belt, but not sure. I have four different models from this series and they are wonderful vacuums. They take the C type convertible bag, which started with the 63 I believe. I'm taking this info from my mental archives late at night, so it could be sketchy! If you're brush strips are worn, that's the tricky part. You'd have to find an old vac shop that may have some in stock. There are other members here far more knowledgeable than myself, so maybe they'll chime in on the above and other useful info. Enjoy, they are such a smooth running machine and very effective cleaners.

Those cleaners were made in the '50s

That 1961 stamp is absolutely a service stamp. They were built like tanks. Some say it was the "Zenith" for Hoover. A lot of the brushes are the "canoe" type. They had the "handisac"..... reuseable. That cloth bag seems to be in great shape for its age.

should all be blue. I BELIEVE, as mine are "complete" and are blue......... even the carry case and hose. {Veriflex}

Hi Brian,

 

That tool set is not correct, though you do have the correct blue slide-in converter for the side tool conversion. Those tools are probably a set from Model 27 (1945) or an early Model 28 (1945-6). The previous owner probably kept the set and got ahold of the correct converter for the later Model 63. Here's a picture of the cover of the Model 63 instruction manual. John is right - the tools were blue. If you have a hose that fits the converter, it will also accept those tools at the other end of the hose.

Thanks for that info. I do have a 28 so I guess I'll say they go with it. It is nice that they are interchangeable.

@ portable I love the manual do you or anyone have the assembly instructions that can be posted? Also if so if someone posts them I'd like permission to save them as if there put in the automatic ephemera I'd be more than happy to purchace them
