Picked this up for $5 the other day, it runs well, the hose is in great shape. Well worth the money for sure!

It cleaned up some, I'll have to do a deep scrub a lot of the rust spots were buffing off. Not sure if the rear wheels are orignal? I find these, but they have the teal wheels.

Nice score there! You can't beat $5 for a good ole reliable workhorse vacuum like a Electrolux Model L. Now all you need to do is buy a good electric hose for it, OR get yourself a straight-suction hose & install the outboard cord onto it, & a nice PN, & you will have yourself a great canister vacuum for daily use. And while you are cleaning it up, take the motor out & install some new carbon brushes. A vacuum this old would probably need new ones installed by now, & if you do so, this Electrolux should probably outlive you :-)

It has the electric hose and I have the cord, I just took it off until I can find a sweeper it was in the way just hanging around lol .. Yes the brushes do need replaced they signal that when you turn it off.

Can you use the mini Sidekick with it? I have one of those with my Epic, I guess you would have to wonder about voltage and things.

Good machine at a good price--congrats!

You're correct that all the original wheels on the ivory Model L (1963-1966) were teal. If you want the originals try checking out your local vacuum stores (the older ones are best) to see if they have a storage room or warehouse of trade-ins. Otherwise, keep your eye on Craigslist or online auctions.

The tools would be in the same color sequence as the aqua Model G: ivory and teal as pictured (note: the floor/rug tool has a teal bumper in more of a teal-green color than the teal Model 1205 and teal Model L floor/rug tool's teal-blue color with an ivory bumper--in case you are detail-oriented like me. Also, the earlier flared hard-plastic crevice tool as shown is more difficult to find, than the tapered, soft plastic style in teal that was sold later).

Your hose appears to be an after-marked one. The original to the cleaner would have been turquoise with teal and white line tracers close together--just like the aqua Model G's. Very likely you have an earlier version as the later ones had a teal cord and clips rather than the ivory like yours.

Yes, you can use a Sidekick with it--it has less amps than a pn. With the non-electric hose you will just need a pigtail and preferably a cord clip, so it doesn't dangle and work its way loose. I use a Sidekick with my Model G like that.

Electrolux Mo L

Great vac, great price. The hose is actually genuine from the Golden J/Super J period. The white hoses seemed to be the worst for wear and suction loss compared to hoses both before and after. It would not be uncommon for a customer with a good standard Electrolux to add a power nozzle after having more carpet and rugs in a home if they did not want a complete new Elux.

Ronni, I just picked up a 1205 today with a power nozzle. Its very dirty and the hose is pretty much gone, but for $10 I'm not gonna complain. However, the power nozzle sounds as though it needs work, I plugged it up to try, made a loud screeching sound. The 1205 seems to work nicely however, and the inside seems very clean.

Very cool--you're on a roll! The teal Model 1205s were manufactured and sold from 1968-1974 (there was also the later gold Model 1205s which were named "Jubilee" and nicknamed "Golden J" for Electrolux Corporation's 50th Jubilee in 1974).

I agree that for $10 you can't complain about it being dirty. It will likely clean up nicely with some elbow grease and a disinfectant such as Pine-Sol or Mr. Clean. Then you can put a protective finish such as furniture polish on it which will give it some extra luster.

Your hose is the original--or at least it bears the original colors. It, too, can be cleaned with a cloth dampened in disinfectant. Instead of purchasing a new one you may be able to repair it using the directions from this thread (if it isn't too worn). Otherwise you can keep it for display:

www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-...

I haven't actually done this yet but am planning to at some point.

The Model PN-1 power nozzle makes me think your cleaner is pre-1972 (when the polished aluminum-hooded Model PN-2s were introduced). I'm not sure about the noise you're hearing. My first thought is to take out the brush roll, clean out any threads, hairs, or other debris from the bristles and pins; check to be sure the belt is in good shape; reassemble it and see if that takes care of the problem. If the brush isn't spinning afterward push the circuit breaker to reactivate it. In the event that the motor is bad there are occasionally replacements online, or you can check with a vacuum store to see if they have any old stock (particularly Aerus franchises). Be sure to ensure that both the elbow and hose are clear of any obstructions, too.

While you're disinfecting take some time to clean the power cords. Allow them to dry before coiling them. The 1205's will benefit from sprinkling some talcum powder on it which acts as a dry lubricant.

See aerusvacuums.com for contact information to request electronic copies of the owners manuals, to order bags, etc. if you don't have an Aerus franchise close to you.

Post photos of your machines once you've cleaned and polished them. Best wishes.

Thanks for all the help and comments! The Aerus store is in Knoxville so I'll have to wait a few weeks before I can go there is also a pawn shop/vacuum shop just a few miles away, so I'm going to check with them on the PN. I'll get them cleaned up in a few days during the work week.

& I see you may have noticed my Jubilee back there lol

Oh and I do something very unorthodox with cleaning my hoses ... I don't mention that part because usually people here freak out, but its worked for several of them so far.. Lol

You're welcome for the info. Hope you'll be able to get all the tools you want and either get the pn going yourself or have it repaired.

You have me curious about what you do with the hoses! I did hear that the newer ones are put in dishwashers and run on light wash cycle without heating drying.
