This is my second European machine for my collection! I fell in love with the look of it but can find very little info on it. Its an SEV Atom Grand, made in France and coming from England. I cant wait to get it! Does anyone have info on it? Its 220 so I will have to invest into a step up transformer to operate it.

Robert, that is an awesome machine! If I may ask, what did the actual postage from the seller end up being? I've often seen vacuums from over the pond I'd like to have, but have always feared the cost of postage. |

The shipping was 38 dollars, pretty reasonable actually. Here is a pic of the cord connection and data plate, also a closeup of the veneer finish. |

Well after extensive searching and deciphering French (thanks Google Translate), ive been able to determine that SEV (Societe Anonyme Por Le'equipment Electrique des Vehicules) or the SEV Corporation Electric and Vehicle Equipment was a company that has made (among many other things) vacuum cleaners since the 20's. According to this Canadian Website (in link below) SEV made the following; Machine tools; engines; transmission couplings and belts; great instruments for agriculture; incubators; electrical apparatus and instruments, optical, measuring, signaling, control and relief for motor vehicles; automatic apparatus by the introduction of a coin or token; talking machines; cash registers, calculating machines; fire extinguishers; lighting, heating, steam generating, cooking, Refrigeration, drying, ventilating, water supply and sanitary purposes; motor vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, helicopters, boats, cars, boats; alternators, regulators, igniters, ignition coils, wiper motors, wheelhouse, wiper arm and blade wiper, washer, gasoline pumps, projectors, auxiliary lights, light and sound alarms, reflectors, candles, electric relays and devices flashing lights, batteries, accumulators, tank caps, mirror, household appliances, vacuum cleaners, radios, tape recorders, car radios, tape cassettes for vehicles, heaters and air conditioners for vehicles, windshield -Ice headlamps, starters, tape cassettes.
I was able to find an ad that featured the SEV Atom Grand Deluxe, my machine, dated 1953. I still need to get a converter and transformer to operate it! Today the company is called SEV Marchal. CLICK HERE TO GO TO bvac6's LINK

Hey Robert
You have 220-240V in the house. Why don't you just make an adapter? The parts are available at any hardware store. Get a dryer cord (you could probably get a cheap used one from a place scrapping old appliances) a 2 fuse/breaker panel, and an appropriate outlet. Note: Your dryer outlet is 30A 240V so you need the breaker panel to protect the circuit at 15A. I built this one for a friend so he could use his English vacuums. |
