You may be correct!

But I would nominate another vac as a close second: the basic Eureka Upright Model 2010 from about 1972 is still in production as the basic Sanitaire square hood upright with the Dial-a-Nap adjuster. Nothing much has changed except motor power and brush rolls and colours.

____

Discontinued long-produced Electrolux/Aerus vacuum cleaners:

1) 1937-41; 1947-54--Model XXX

2) 1968-1994--Models 1205; 1205/Golden Jubilee; 1401/Super J; 1401, 1401B, 1505/Olympia One; 1505/Silverado; 1521/Diamond Jubilee, Marquise, Grand Marquise, Legacy, Ultralux, Ultralux LX, Ultralux Classic, Ultralux Commemorative Edition (which marked the 25th anniversary of the 1205-styled machines as an award for exceptional sales and branch ownerships)

1994-2012--the Renaissance tank style was manufactured. Other names it went by were: Model C133A/Epic 8000™, Models C134A, C134B, C154B/Guardian™, Model C134C/Guardian Encore™, Models C134D, C134E, C134F/Lux® 9000, Model C154E/Lux® Guardian™, and Model C170A/Lux® Guardian Ultra™

____

Of course, there have been revisions, updates, and color variations over the years but the general styles have been/are the same. I appreciate that continuity in Aerus's products. Instead of discarding time-honored designs just for the sake of change it improves upon its effective engineering which gives it an "air" of reliability and customer familiarity.

Incidentally, Aerus continues to offer its well-designed and efficiently-used floor/rug combo tool and dusting/upholstery combo tool which were first introduced with the Model E in 1954, and in fact sold with the last of the famous Model XXXs.

Must Be Time for Bed ...

My two previous posts erroneously referred to 'Epic 3000SR' as both a tank and an upright cleaner. Only the upright is 'Epic 3000SR'; the tank is 'Epic 6000SR'. Both were the first Epic machines in their classifications.

Can't believe I missed it twice. Good night!

Definitely the Numatic Henry over here, although the longest running vacuum ever in the UK is, without a doubt, the Hoover Junior. 44 years in production between 1944 and 1988.

75 years of NSS pigs

ultralux88's profile picture
The NSS is honestly the winner, the same basic machine began being manufactured in 1940. The model M was made from 1940 to I believe she said 1972, then a more powerful motor was put in the machine along with a couple small changes in the housings and it became the M-1, which is still made today. 1940-2015 means the NSS 'Pig' has been a current machine for 75 years with no major or truly significant changes.

How about...

The Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac? I've read that this vacuum was introduced in 1996. Surprisingly, they are still being made! I saw some in stock at an independent hardware store.

Guess the longest made vacuums would have to fall under Commercial/Industrial(NSS Pigs) then residentual--could the Aerus/Lux be contenders? How bout Kirby,Rainbow,TriStar/Compact?Then there is Royal. Can't forget them.

Hoover purepower?

turbo500's profile picture

Hoover Purepower has been on sale for 18 years as of 2015 - the same time as the Hoover Turbopower was on sale. Henry has been on sale for 34 years.

I thought the TP1 was on sale 1982 to 2004? Maybe it was 2002. Either way that was 20 or 22 years.

Hoover TP1 ad TP2 don't even come close to the NSS Pig which has been in production for over 70 years!

What about the Hoover Convertible platform and all the models that were built off of it?

Rob, I thought it was 83 - 2001? The last TP (red soft bag) ceased production in 2001, but sold into 2002.

The Turbopower 2 was very short lived really, 10 years. 1992-2002.

Still can't believe the Henry is still going after 34 years, with only slight modifications, like motor changes, slightly different lettering, switch and exhaust placement and bucket styling. other than that it has always stayed the same, it has always been powerful and has always been quiet and reliable.

The Royal!

stricklybojack's profile picture
..may be a contender depending on a judgement call . Model numbers and names are sometimes just marketing. The. Hoover Portapower was first the Swingette i believe. It would edge out the Aerus Legacy depending on how you apply the as of yet nearly noexistent guidlines.
The Compact/Tristar is better than these two but depends if one allows the current model is close enough in design. The EXL was close enough in my book, the MG (i think it's called) maybe not. I haven't seen one side by side to the old. I think it is likely close enough.

So depending on how you see things could the Royal top the Pig? I will defer to those more knowledgeable, but i think it might.

The basic Hoover Convertible design is still in production in commercial variations but when did it begin? I'm not asking when was the first Convertible model produced but rather when was that basic design introduced by Hoover?

Longest Running Vac

Much good information above.
Other than the NSS if we mean a vac where the current and first look the same from 50 feet away we should go back to the current Sanitaire(as above)which came from the Eureka that was one of the first and best post war vacs from about 1948.
As to Hoover the first Convertible was 1957 but if we look for the design of rotating brush, belt, fan, motor and bag we would be at the Model O of 1907 and most Hoovers since.
