Hoping for some help!

The left side with the roller guide and "key" has jumped off. So I loosened the set screw in the bail and was able to slip the bail back into the "nub". However, it does not fit anywhere near flush...and the bail now is lopsided and after a couple a push/pulls, it jumps off again.

I am sure I must be missing something...maybe the way the "key" fits into the roller guide?

Frustrated and confused.

 Dear Guy:

I have nothing but the deepest sympathy for your bail problems. The most important thing is to get un-frustrated and take a deep breath before you proceed lest damage be done!

It sounds like you've already successfully done the hard part, that is reinserting the "snap-action" handle positioning jig into the spring-loaded roller guide.

I am assuming you have removed the handle and the bag assembly. If not, you need to do so. This will make access to and manipulation of the the bail that much easier.

As you have noticed, the bail prongs tend to pop off of the studs mounted on either side of the fan chamber when their set screws are loosened. This is as it should be. Were the prongs to "pinch" the sides of the fan chamber they would tend to rub and bind with every up and down movement of the handle.

There is a deep groove in each of these two studs that needs to be "found" by the set screw in the socket of each bail arm. It seems likely to me, from your written description, that you have not successfully located this groove in one or both of the studs, explaining why the bail appears to be lopsided and is jumping off its mounts.

When you have correctly aligned the socket and the stud, you will be able to "sink" the set-screw(s) several turns deeper, into the groove, than in previous, "misaligned" attempts.
