Rainbow D4C Electrolux Renaissance Regina Electrikbroom for quick pick-ups Electrolux XXX (model 30) Hoover 300 Special Hoover 31 Special Its a toss-up as to which Hoover I choose for the area rugs, just depends on what mood I'm in! For the record the Olympia One sees more use than any other machine. |

My daily driver for the past year has been a Maytag M500. Actually, since I very rarely clean my own house, Donnie uses the Maytag every day. It is his favorite vacuum of all time. When I get out a vacuum myself, it is usually a different machine each time. For example, on the rare occasion I decide to run the sweeper, it could just as easily be a rainbow, or a compact, or an airway, or an Electrolux.

A DC14 from a batch of new ones we were selling a while back, and an iRobot Roomba. I also have the fan to match the blue DC14 and an Airblade in the downstairs bathroom in the Dyson family. I am musing on the idea of the 360 Dyson robot.

The only uprights I've personally bought extra attachments for ever would be my Radiance, and I bought a set of tools that would fit any Tacony or Panasonic upright. I just have the standard on-board attachments with my X4 clear that I bought new. I did buy a dustin brush and handle-mounted clip for it for my Kenmore labeled Sebo X2 though, it didn't come with it when new. I don't know when, but at some point all the Sebo uprights in the US started coming standard with the dusting brush and the clip that holds it to the handle.

Just a few tools then!! I must admit I do use all mine at some point. I was thinking of getting the flat upholstery tool and the radiator brush but probably wouldn't use them!! I wouldn't mind getting the larger dusting brush though. That's why I'd be better off getting the X1.1 as I have most of the tools that you get with the X4 variants!!

Here's the vacuum I used today, I felt it's been too long since I enjoyed running this beast thru the house. It's one of the machines I most enjoy using, many memories and a real fascination with them since early chdhood makes it one of my all time favorites. Since my earliest memories of seeing one used at a Wal-Mart and a fabric store as well as at school Ive found these to be one of the machines that appeal to me more than most.

usually depends on whichever machine I decide to use! Lately, I've been using my Electroluxes, mostly the L and G. I'm also really liking my Eureka ESP upright, it has so much power!
Ultralux88, I just remembered that my shop teacher in middle school (I think 7th grade?) had on older NSS Pig that he used to clean up the work area after school. I stayed after school a couple of times to vacuum the classroom for him with it! It sounded like a leaf blower, but it had a ton of suction and airflow! I think the choir teacher had a Pacific Steamex that she used to clean the choir and band room, too. It was an all-black tank with a black bag, looked just like the NSS. |

Seanc, it's fine as long as you keep the cleaner moving. If you hold it still, the brushroll protection kicks in and shuts the machine down.
I very rarely use the upright on those rugs anyway. We have 3 of them and they shed quite a lot which fills the bag with carpet fluff. I tend to stick to using straight suction on them with an upright run over them every few months at the most. |

Was my grandmothers Kirby that she and gramps purchased brand new back in 1981 after she used my parents that they bought new a few weeks prior. Right after I got my first apartment, she showed up at my door with it, stating that she knew I needed a good "vak-kum" for my new home. That was back in 1999 and I've been using it ever since. I keep it regularly serviced and maintained and it works like a dream. I couldn't dream of parting with it.

Well I don't use it EVERY day :) I give the house a good vacuuming once a week with it. My place is small so it doesn't take very long. I find that it glides across my carpet pretty smoothly actually and I like that is brushroll is more gentle on carpeting. I steam my carpets twice a year with hot water and white vinegar and I'm always impressed at how clean the Kirby keeps my carpet. The waste-water is nowhere near as murky or cruddy as I expect.
I do get a good workout using it but I wouldn't use anything else. I was raised with a Kirby in every house (parents, both sets of grandparents) and to this day we are all still a Kirby family - my brother even has one. I've converted two friends over as well :) |

using a Kirby everyday? A Kirby G series requires very little effort to use. With Tech Drive it requires less than 2 lbs. of force to move it back and forth. I use a Sentria as my DD and I love it.
I have a bad back and I have a bagless Hoover Windtunnel Air which weighs 12 lbs. and after 15 minutes of dragging that Hoover around my home my back is in agony and I must sit down for 10 minutes before I can continue. My Sentria weighs in at 23 lbs. but I can vacuum a full 30 minutes with it which is the amount of time it takes to vacuum my entire home. I could go longer if need be. I love using my Sentria as my DD.

Nar, ours are quite heavy. They're proper shag rugs and take a fair amount of effort to move. We don't really have the space to start shaking it outside either.
Agree with Alex, re Kirby's for daily use. Brilliant for deep cleaning large carpeted area's, not so great for day to day vacuuming around furniture. |

I seem to swap them around allot. I tend to grab a different one each time. For daily quick cleanups nothing beats my dc62 ( dc 59) I have also been favoring our dc24 animal lately.
I have also been using my G Kirby's but due to the fact that in our multi floored home with Kids and animals you have to plan your cleaning to avoid having to fit and remove the hose two many times they tend to get used on weekends mostly And yes if you look through the French doors that is a Piglet standing their. She is a tea cup piglet Penelopiggy or other wise known as STIG-lett ( aka TopGear) for here speed when chasing things around. Second picture sleeping infront of the Hoovers at my office |

I keep my carpet vacuumed regularly and shoes off of it! I think it adds warmth to a small home such as mine. I went with a semi-loose knap for easier vacuuming- I love the way my Kirby leaves it looking. I do have ceramic tile in the kitchen, dining , laundry and bathrooms. Your kitchen is beautiful! That vent hood on your oven looks like something from a Sci-fi movie! If only my kitchen were that spacious...

It's funny Alex how you can form an opinion about a vacuum cleaner you do not have. According to your profile, you only have a Kirby Legend, which does not have Tech Drive, so how do you form an opinion about a Kirby G series that you do not even own. I will ignore your comments since I see you were born in 1994, you're still a kid who doesn't know any better. |

I think that's completely uncalled for. Just because somebody is younger than you doesn't make their opinion or experience any less valid. I could call you an ancient old crone who's stuck in the past, but I'm not that rude.
How do you know Alex hasn't owned G series cleaners in the past and sold them on?
I see you only own 5 cleaners and have used 2 brands for the past hundred years - far more limited experience than Alex has had, I can assure you.
1994, so that makes Alex 20 - old enough to work, drive, drink, have sex, own a house, get married etc etc. His opinion counts just as much as yours. This post was last edited 01/06/2015 at 11:08 |

The performance of the machine itself, the Kirby,-to me, has always been fascinating and appealing to me from a visual stand point. I love how it's design today (Avalir) still hardens back to the machine/Industrial Age when modern technology was really starting to take off. Plus, no other machine can take on a complexly different look or beastly personality as the Kirby just by simply powering it up and filling that large magnificent bag with air and hearing that jet engine-like rush of air as it moves through the machine- It lets me know my home is being kept CLEAN!
I do, however, appreciate ALL machines(after all - they were originally designed with one purpose in mind- to make life easier) and I realize every person has their specific reasons for their preference- having such a vast selection to choose from is part of what makes this day and age great a great one to be living in. Just like choosing your vehicle, you can choose whatever you want to fit your needs/wants to make your life easier and more enjoyable... Keep the great pics coming!!! |

With Kirbys I think allot has to do with the design of your house and its size aswell as the flooring type. Having young children will aslo affect your Love or loath of it.
When I use my Kirbys at my shop which is 90 % carpet in the showroom and offices excluding a small area of wood flooring Its Lovely. No small toys to get vacuumed up No dust and fur from pets getting stuck around edges Just normal dust. Its a pleasure to use it in the wide open spaces. At Home on the other hand we have carpet Tile and wooden floors aswell as loose rugs on the tiles. We also Have pets. Now for some reason the cats will get cat litter all over the house far away from were the box is. If its on the carpets its fine But if its on the hardfloors then I have to go and get the pipes out to vacuum around the edges. If I use my dyson I simply pull the pipe out and vacuum then go back to vacuuming the carpets or switch off the brush roll and clean the hardfloors. Direct air vacuum sare also not so great for handling mistakenly sucked up lego or small toys not to mention trying to get the remains out of the bag. Just a View Point from Dad of two Sons in a busy household |

Hi, The Kitchen isn't mine but the Kirby is mine. The Kitchen belongs a friend of mine I sometimes house/dog sit for. When I go I take the Kirby with me. It cleans the hard floors better than his bagless mess The picture I used was the first one of my spare G5 I came across that was on my laptop.
But I do live in a new three story town house. Here's a pic of my Kirby 517 outside my front door.

It's not often people use a BS36 as a regular DD.
The new style fans on the Kirbys are far more resilient than the one used on the L2. Here is a picture from a G5 that came in to me full of....well you see what I mean. The fan is fine by the way. I wouldn't intentionally suck up large heavy object tho with any upright. Not to long ago my supplier had a new Sebo X4 pet come back a few months later after he sold it to a lady. She had sucked up a chunk of house brick and smashed the housing where the brush roll is. I think she also damaged the bag holder/door some how. She also seem surprised the damaged wasn't covered under guarantee. I wonder why...
Here's a pic of the water from the washing machine that came out after the first wash cycle when I washed the G5 bag.

HI James
I like your 517. I had heard that Older Kirbys are hard to find in the UK like here in South Africa. Do you bring some in from the USA ? I have yet to find a 500 series Newer than a 510 I have one of and I have a few 508,s, These seemed popular and I have just received my first 505. All these models have 110v stamped on them with 220v stamped over it. Are yours the same ? Gareth |

All my Kirby 500 series are USA ones that I imported in. I do own a second Kirby 508 that is 230 volts imported from your neck of the woods quite a few years ago. The lady who owned it contacted me via my website wanting to know if I was interested in it. We have a few re-badged Wireless Vacuette's and "230 volt" Scott Fetzer Sanitation Systems over here in the UK. The Vacuettes were re-badged "GEM". I can't remember what the S&Fs were re-badged off the top of my head. Someone in high up in Kirby over here was telling me he knows someone was importing Kirby's over here after the war in the south of the country but he wasn't sure who it was.
