Well, this Eureka came in to the Hoover store maybe a year and a half ago... nothing was really wrong with it.. maybe needed a new cord and fan...

So, I took it down to Jeff's with me one time, and we put a new (Hoover) cord on it, a fan, a brushroll; washed the bag, and cleaned it all up.

I took it home and started using it with a VG2 installed.

Now, this had a double ball bearing 6.5 amp motor in it - Jeff calls them Eureka's "exploding motor"...
So I was in the middle of vacuuming the living room... and the motor started sputtering, it had essentially exploded.
It threw one of the commutator plates off of its armature.

How lovely, I thought.

I called, all mad at my machine that we had just spent precious time working on...

Turns out Jeff had an extra motor that he had saved out of another, similar cleaner. Jeff gave me thatout of another machine, same thing.. He had also ordered me a chrome handle and chrome handle socket--as we had decided months earlier that it would probably look pretty spiffy on this cleaner. Well, at least it would look better than the plastic handle that was on it originally.

So--fast forward to tonight, when after sitting in a box for the better part of a year, along with its new handle, new bail, and new motor...
I got the itch to work on a project--and this is what I went for.

I think it turned out pretty nice! And Man-oh-man, does this thing lift the carpet and leave it nicely groomed!

I think this one will be a keeper!

Wow that looks great. My church has one like it but no headlight. It did the same thing, Yours sorta looks like a retro vac. I think those are great machines.

very nice!

Eureka had alot of problems with their upside down motor, so much so that the last of these machines had 7.0 amp Sanitaire motors in them.
Now if they'd have just put the ball bearing VGII's in these cleaners, they would have had a good quality machine.
Looks very nice Fred, glad I could contribute some to it!
