Have a question about Kirby shampoo. I have an Ultimate G that I've used to shampoo my carpets with. I ran out of shampoo but still have some from my Hoover spin brush carpet steamer. Wondering if I can use it in the Kirby.
Has anyone else tried any other brand of carpet cleaner liquid in their Kirby?
And if so, what worked.
Thanks,
Jim

It is not recommended to use any other brand of shampoo in your Kirby G series shampooer. The Kirby shampoo is a special dry foam type of shampoo. Other brands of shampoo tend to be too wet and will cause undesirable results mainly leaving your carpet too wet for the Kirby to extract it. It could also cause damage to the motor unit if any excess moisture gets inside.

Don't use any other shampoo with your rug renovator. You'll wind up with a soapy, sudsy mess on your carpet. Put off your carpet cleaning until you can get some more Kirby shampoo.

the Hoover detergent is NOT carpet shampoo. It is meant to be used in a carpet washer which sucks up the liquid and dirt.

You could use other brands of DRY FOAM shampoo, such as Franklin Super Carpet and Upholstery Shampoo, Aerus's Turbo ShampooŽ, and Koblenz Dry Foam Rug and Carpet Shampoo--just not the extraction cleaner for steam vacs or other types.

Check out your local hardware or home improvement store.

Exactly, it must be a dry foam type shampoo to work at all, others will just make your carpet a shampoo filled sticky nasty mess.

If I'm not mistaken, Bissell still makes a dry-foam rug shampooer formula as well. Saw it being sold here in Canada at Home Hardware a couple of years ago.

Why take a chance? Just order some Kirby shampoo from ebay and you can rest assured that you will get the best results possible.

Or U can use Resolve canned dry foam shampoo; just spray the foam onto the carpet & scrub with the Kirby Rug Renovator

Thanks for the information, Rob. I didn't know that Bissell made a dry foam product, along with its steam cleaning solution.

Most well stocked vacuum shops have the Kirby carpet shampoo.

Thanks everyone.
Guess I'll be sticking to Kirby brand shampoo. Though, if I happen to run into one of the other dry foam brands I just might experiment.
