Hello - I was thinking about getting my wife a Dyson vac but I'm not sure which one is best. We have mainly flat carpet and just need an upright with the most vacuuming power that will not lose suction over time, pet hair is not a consideration. Right now my wife is using an $89 Hoover upright and she has used Dust Devils in the past. The one time I tried to buy her a more expensive vacuum I got burned big time - it was a Hoover Wind Tunnel that cost $330, and it didn't work that good, or for very long. I'm hoping Dyson will be a better choice. If it were just me I would get a Rainbow R2D2 vac, but my wife prefers uprights.

After some basic research, I'm looking at the DC33 and DC40 models, but was also looking at some rebuilt DC07's on ebay. If the only difference is the ball or not, I prefer the regular wheeled model. I just want a good reliable vacuum, long cord is appreciated but we don't use attachments that much, it will be used 99% of the time as a plain upright, no stairs either. Any thoughts?

I would say dyson dc07 or dc33 stay away from dyson balls

I would avoid getting the DC 33 and dc40 and dc07 as the not very good at all personally I wouldn't even touch them for carpet cleaning but a dyson DC 65 multifloor would be perfect for you is The best performing and the most powerful but they also have a Dyson DC 65 animal that technically the same Comes with extra attachments sounds like the DC 65 would be perfect and I think you'll like it very much.

You haven't had any of the new Dyson balls you can't really comment on them. Dyson DC 33 and Dc07 not very good at carpet cleaning and the plastic is brittle.

I have a DC41 Mk2 which is very similar to the DC65 apart from a lip on the floorhead that you can move up and down to control the amount of suction and for picking up larger objects.

I couldn't be happier with it!

If you want a non ball one, get a DC14 rebuilt or refurbished, or anything like that - sturdy, VERY powerful suction and good for all floors

Dc41 or dc65 - good suction with the latest active baseplate and radial root cyclone to capture particles even as small as cigarette smoke! The filters hardly get dirty either. The brushbars on them are very good at deep cleaning and have a five year warranty!

When your wife is vacuuming and she sees a little crumb or something on the couch or somewhere, within a second or two the wand and hose are ready to use with one lift of the handle!

Dyson

 I have both a DC07 and DC33 and both are great vacuums! The DC33 is a strong a sturdy vacuum and it does an excellent job picking up. The DC07 is also a great vacuum it has great suction and a powerful strong motor. Either one would be a great choice. The Dyson ball isn't the best cleaner, my cousin and my grandma have one and they're flimsy and poorly built. My grandma has a DC24 which is the small Dyson ball and when I used it it fell apart! The part that connects the hose to the motor head snapped right off into two pieces! My cousins DC44 is also garbage! She hates it! She has a three story town house and it doesn't do a good job cleaning her carpets and hardwood floors at all! Her $20 Walmart bissell did a better job than that thing. My DC33 does an excellent job cleaning carpet, tile and hardwood floor same with the DC07. Either one would be a perfect option :) and the DC33 and 07 are very good plastic, my DC33 fell down the stairs and survived and worked perfectly.

I Personally hate the DC 24 got many inherited problem. The new Dyson hav Really good build quality anyone has seen those videos of the DC 65 in DC 41 being bashed about you can clearly see the build quality is really good

I was carrying my DC14 down the stairs with the cyclone assembly loose (I didn't realise that it was not on properly) but I was sure that it looked a bit dodgy, so upon taaking it downstairs,was gonna look and put it away, just as. I was halfway down the stairs, the vacuum went tumbling down the stairs and landed onto the hard floor, leaving just the cyclone assembly held by my hand. I was shocked, worried that it had broken.

I picked it up and the only thing was the the vacuum's crevice tool had come off, and the plug un clipped from the cable

Have fun with your Dyson, that rainbow is a great choice, you should try convincing your wife to get that rainbow! wink
