Hi Aiden,

This is one of my favourite stick vacs for cleaning bare floors. The first versions were indeed labelled Dirt Devil, but they were taken off the market due to some electric shock problems. Swiffer took the vac and made it safe to return to market and these are now available everywhere as the Swiffer Vac (see link below).

We bought one in 2006 for my mother and she loves the vac and uses it once or twice a day. The concept is simple but works quite well: the front edge suction nozzle sucks up large particles, hair and crumbs, while the Swiffer pad wipes away any fine electrostatic dust that can't be removed with suction. It is lightweight and quite easy to swivel around chair legs and cabinets. It's also inexpensive - Canada's Home Depot sells them for $50.

It's the easiest way to sweep and dust bare floors!

I had a Swiffer Vac at one point. It was okay, but the fact that the filters weren't washable made it expensive to maintain.

I don't understand why you needed to ever replace the little filter in the Swiffer Vac. In the 3 years we have owned our most recent one, we never had to wash the filter, and we never had to buy a replacement. Just a thorough monthly vacuuming with a full size vac - using the hose and crevice tool - and the filter was good to go. Of course, one does have to buy the disposable Swiffer Pads, but these are often on sale at the supermarket. Since "time is money", the efficiency of cleaning with this rechargeable stick vac more than makes up for the expense laid out for the pads. And at $50 for the unit itself, it's a far more economical investment than many other cordless vacs being marketed for cleaning bare floors.
