Wednesday, I made my trip to Jensen Beach, and found this wonderful Celebrity III, languishing in a U-Haul box, with everything pictured, minus the mystery crevice tool that I thought belonged with it. It came with extra bags,(I thought)found out the machine had no bag, the cord is electrical taped to the back, and taped inside the case too. After installing the only bag that came with it, I tried it out, and what a performer! I found out the switch won't work either, but I plugged it into a computer extention box and went to town. It has great suction, picks the carpet up, and glides over the rug like a champ. What is the official name of the burnt orange and chocolate color scheme?

Bottoms Up!

arh1953's profile picture
Here's his tushie, has no wheels, the tape holding the cord to the case can be seen, as well as the white rubber toe switch over the push button. It is really clean inside, it has a minimum of usage scarring, and all of the white trim has no schmutz and little marking.

Congrats on the find. I really like the celebrities. They are real sturdy and have lots of power.
The cord seems to be a weak area with no strain relief. I had to cut off a few inches on one of mine. I also had to replace the switch, but it was the toggle type that looks like a wall light switch.
Any chance of an inside pic. I'm curious about the motor cover. Some of mine are white and some black. Go figure?
Also none of my floaters say celebrity on the machine. Just a Hoover circle in the center.
Anyways have fun with this one!
Nicholas

The Motor Cover

arh1953's profile picture
Here it is. I love this thing, I hope I can locate more locally. I have the two tone blue one which is a Quiet Series, that is pictured in another thread. It cost about $9.00 with just the hose, and the orange/brown floater cost $21.40, with wands, floor tool, dust/upholstery brush, and wrong crevice tool.

Thanks for the pic. It looks pretty clean inside.
On a side note you might want to take off the motor cover and make sure the wires inside are in good shape and not getting pinched. It looks like somebody did a sloppy job letting the wire stick out of the cover. Electric shocks and/or fires aren't cool!

Lucky find Alan the floating Celebrity is my fave because it floats which is all that matters to me. Otherwise I don't care for them all that much like most other canisters. Unless they have some unique property.

I like canisters mostly, and am getting addicted to Celebrities. I'll scope out my wiring sometime soon and see what it's like.

I would love to find one of these, but I have a question. Are they suppose to have wheels? I've never seen one up close so I am not sure. Either way, I think it's a awesome looking Hoover.

Hi Logan, some had wheels, some didn't. The orange one here floats over the floor, like a Constellation. This blue one has wheels.

I love that blue one! Is it straight suction or does it have a power nozzle connection?

Post# 30337 , Reply# 10   1/26/2008 at 19:38 (5,927 days old) by electroluxxxx (……)

since it is a QS it should have the power nozzle attachment

The blue vacuum was found only with that hose, and I didn't see an outlet for a powerhead on it. When I pull it out again, I'll look it over. I just got wands for it before Toby sent me a set of tools for it. The wands are not the aluminum like I was told it should have, they are chrome, and have electric cord holder fittings on them. They were the only things available in the only shop in the area that even had older parts. They even have a XXX Elux on display.

Another floater!! Will wonders never cease!?

arh1953's profile picture
It's not the colors I wanted, but it's the design I wanted. It came with everything in the picture, including the strange crevice tool that swivels in the hose end, held in place by vacuum suction. The orange and brown vacuum has the same tool that I thought was a mismatch. This one is brown on the bottom with a working switch, and the cord grommet on the back. It set me back $6.35 in St. Vincent De Paul of Vero Beach. And, it floats! I wanna Constellation now.

New Floater

I didn't want to keep opening new threads for practically the same vacuums. This is why this keeps coming to the top of the page.

I bought one of those floating Celebrities new back in the 70's as a gift for a BF and it came with a power nozzle but for the life of me I can't remember if the power nozzle cord plugged into the vac or not.. I'm thinking you just plugged it into the wall outlet with the vac.

I don't think the blue one has any place on it for a powerhead, and it's much more deluxe than the floaters. Bet the one you gave to BF had the little plug in on the vacuum.

Congrats on the finds Alan! With luck like that you will have more celebrities than me soon.
I'm also curious about what model numbers you have. Could you post them? All of my floaters are S3005 (two yellow one orange).
Thanks
Nicholas

I believe the new floater is S3121. The Celebrity III is S3169. I can't access the blue one at the moment, but I think I posted the model number in the original thread about it.

How does the orange celebrity hover, Alan? I don't see any visible vents..like the connies have.

I'm sure the answers obvious but hey, at least i'm posting again.

Glad you're posting again, and no, the answer is not so obvious. I'll post Picture #2 again, note the white ring on the edge of the bottom, that is the blower. It creates at least a quarter inch of lift, and the thing moves easily, if not as dramatically as the Constellation.

Heh, my grey connie actually "walks" around the hard kitchen floor on it's own.

Not the same on carpet mind.

Celebrities

Here are three of mine. The other two are stored in my Dad's shop.

How many colors did these come in? Everytime I see a picture of one it's a different color! The vac shop I was at the other day had one that was dark green with a mint color green underside. (I couldn't buy it because it was there for repair - Grrrr)

Thanks Nicholas, the Celebrities are beautiful. I'm sure my blue one does not have power nozzle capabilities. I will continue to buy these as I find them, but I'd like the green and blue ones. I have only seen one Constellation in person as a child, I think in a store. I'm sure they float a little better than the Celebrities.

Post# 31173 , Reply# 25   2/8/2008 at 07:21 (5,914 days old) by ian88 ()

It's all in the design of the rim on the bottom as far as i'm aware, Alan (try making a double entendre outta THAT one)

Logically you'd think the Celebrity would be the improvement over the Constellation as it is a newer model, but as i'm sure you know that isn't always the case.

Let's see, I thought of a couple double entendres, but I don't want to be banned! LOL I think it's the rim and the dimples on the bottom of le Celebrity.

I've seen vacuum cleaners with better personalities than some show biz celebrities, frankly a vacuum cleaner deserves that title much more than them. How about Debutante, Dilletante, or Astroglide? Also, one of my favourite Mr. Blackwell (self proclaimed fashion critic) quotes was "I've seen prettier covers on vacuum cleaners."

I always think the 70s/80s Kirbys have classy names..

Heritage 1 and 2, Tradition, Classic, Legend 1 and 2..

heh.

Floating

I have noticed that my celebrities float better than my connies. The celebs are much more powerful so I think that's why.
Sometime I'll have to dig out my green one when I'm at my dads and take some pics.

Did you say the green one was like the yellow and red ones, or is it like the blue and chrome one?

Post# 31287 , Reply# 32   2/9/2008 at 17:11 (5,913 days old) by constellation86 (Roy, UT)

My green one has wheels, two tone green. with power nozzle port 2.6 hp if I remember right.
Pretty close to this one on ebay, except not as nice. But this one is not a power nozzle model.
The only green floaters I have even heard of were power nozzle models.
Hope your not on tender hooks waiting for a pic.

No, I don't mind looking at the links. I can't instantly put my hands on a lot of things myself, so you will have pictures when you're able. Both of the vacuums in the links are fascinating. The green two tone is my favorite of the two, even though the blue one has the power head.

Ebay

Did you look closely at the blue one on Ebay? Did you notice hose the power nozzle cord connects from the hose to the machine? It looks as if it is "hard wired" directly into the machine. There is no plug that I can see. That can't be right! It almost looks rigged, but then again I may be wrong.

What do you think?

We may both be wrong, but it does look hard wired in.

Post# 31360 , Reply# 37   2/10/2008 at 08:05 (5,912 days old) by constellation86 (Roy, UT)

I would guess that the blue one had a plug at some point. But it was broken maybe? It does look hard wired in now. I can't imagine someone cut that hole perfectly square if it was "rigged up".
Based on the screws in the power nozzle I'd bet somebody played with it.
Now that I think about it, I have never seen a Hoover with the cord outside the hose before. My theory is that the original hose was trashed so they found a regular hose and an aftermarket cord. The plug was too big to fit in the socket so someone hard wired it in. By jove I think you've got it Holmes.:)

Actually that model did come with a cord on the outside of the hose (I have one) but there should have been an outlet on the vacuum. Its obviously been removed and the cord wired in. This picture doesnt show the cord or powerhead but you can see what the outlet was like.
