Since most of these machines are vintage, I'll put them in here.
Getting ready here for the holidays. Because I have to paint, install molding, etc. the furniture is in the middle of the rooms, waiting for me to attack. All of the windows, (31), YIKES are washed. So, tonight, I'll post the arsenal of cleaning items (LOTS of HOOVERS) here. What do all of ye use to clean your place? Detergents, winndow cleaners, VACS.... I hope I'm posting in the correct area, being that vacuums will be plentiful). Fresh bags in your vacs. ready, set.................. Happy cleaning !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

seeing as I just cleaned last night, I used the following to clean.
Electrolux Commemorative Edition Canister with power nozzle and hard floor tool. Microfiber Cloth with water only wrung out as much as possible for the mirrors and glass over pictures. Microfiber Cloth spritzed lightly with windex for dusting wood furniture that does not get lemon oil. Wet dust doesn't fly. Also use on laptop keyboard and washer and dryer. Microfiber Cloth saturated with lemon oil, that I keep in a plastic bag for storage when not in use for antique end tables, vintage pump organ, etc. Lambswool duster for cabinets, Electrostatic duster for window blinds, tv screens, and fireplace surround. Kitchen counters and sink get washed with Dawn Dish Soap, all else goes in dishwasher. Bathrooms sinks and toilets get washed down with Lysol Disenfectant and the Vinyl Shower and Tubs get Kaboom Bathroom Cleaner. Wet down with water first, then sprayed and then scrubbed with a microfiber bathroom spong. Wood floor in foyer, tile floors in kitchen, and two baths get cleaned with a Haan Steam Cleaner or a Microfiber mop spritzed with Kirby Floor Cleaner (Great Stuff). So here is my order of cleaning, Dust blinds, kitchen chairs, and cabinets with Lambswool duster. Also use on light fixtures. Wash Kitchen counters and sink and wipe down appliances. Vacuum all hard surface floors. To dust and polish funiture, I remove and windex all items on whatever piece of furniture I am doing and set them aside. Then dust or polish said furniture and replace items. Then go to the next....Sometimes I dust all the rooms and then vacuum. Sometimes I do room by room..... Vacuuming carpet and under beds is the last thing I do before cleaning the bathrooms. When I am done with the bathrooms, I steam clean the tile floors. If I want to use one of my uprights, I always team it with a canister for above floor cleaning and under beds, otherwise any canister I have will do both. Favorite Upright - Kirby Sentria II, hopefully soon to be 100th anniversary. Favorite Canisters, I have (2), a Rainbow E2Black all time favorite and then of course the true Electrolux's (Aerus) canisters. I love my vintage machines and use upgraded filtration when available, but usually I use them for my quick pick ups between a through cleaning. I am not saying they will not clean as well, just that filtration was not as good when they were made. If I use them, I have to dust more frequently.... Sincerely, PR-21 Bud This post was last edited 11/22/2014 at 12:21 |

For really deep cleanings, i like to use my Kirby G5, but I will soon use my "vintage Blue Sanitaire", especially since I have a whole set of attachments for it now too.
As for cleaners, ODOR-BANE is probably my favorite all-purpose cleaner. It's used in hotels mainly, it's an air freshener, a disinfectant, a fungicide, laundry additive, fogging additive, etc. Odo-Ban is the knock off of it available at SAMs club, it does a good job too but it doesn't smell as nice. I also like to use a carpet freshener called ELKY-PRO Original Scent, Also for use in hotels. It also has a very nice clean "Hotel smell". |

Hi John:
The floor washer is wonderful, does a great job on kitchen floors, just add a little Murphy's oil soap for hardwoods, and they shine. For me, there's a personal connection here. The floor washer was invented by Don Krammes, husband of Stacy Krammes, original director of the Hoover Historical Center, and the first den mother fo the V.C.C.C., 1983-94. |

My line up. The only thing missing is my buckets and sponge. The bigmouth shop vacuum is in the master bedroom since today we started replacing the sub-flooring. I'll use pretty much all of this!!! I'm starting Monday. Hopefully tomorrow we will have the new sub-flooring down and our new bed. That's been out big project this week. |

But, then, is there any such thing as an UGLY 63? Not really.
It seems like a lot of people like that Murphy's Oil.I used to use it in the church. Somebody walked in and said, "Wow, this place smells so nice". It does agreat job on natural woodwork. Every inch of woodword here had benn painted over and ruined. I undid all of that, except for one last bedroom. "Coming in the Spring of 2015". {sounds like a movie preview} |

My arsenal is everchanging. I'm always trying different chemicals. Pledge is my wood dusting spray. Many times it is the blue Multi- Surface trigger spray and other times it is the Extra Moisturizing. Glass Plus or a flavored Disinfecting Windex for mirrors, glass and other things. Lysol Cling for toilet bowls, Armstrong Floor Cleaner, Mr. Clean Gain Berry scent for random things. Disinfecting sprays are everchanging. Mr. Clean Professional Bathroom Disinfectant line is the best but it is discontinued. Tilex Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner and Lysol Disinfecting cleaners are good. Lysol keeps changing their scent though and some formulas don't work as well as others. Like the Berry one was very good and so was orange. The Lysol Lemon has been inconsistent. I can't do much of anything with Lavendar and avoid Lavendar or flowery scents. Bon Ami has been a help lately for oven, stove and other miscellaneous things-- Thanks John!!!
I'm a sponge mop person all the way!!! I can wash floors hands and knee but prefer a Mop so much more!!! So many more places I'm willing to stuff and squeeze the mop into rather than my fingers with or with out gloves on!! Also better on my knees to stand up and mop rather than be down on all fours! The Quickie Automatic Wringer mop has been in use in my household every since I can remember! Vacuum cleaner wise most often it is a Hoover PowerMax or Hoover Windtunnel canister for a deep cleaner and quick spots on bare floors since brush roll can be turned off. But the Hoover Celebrity II Elite runs QUITE often as a daily driver. For Air Cleaning we have a Rexair Rainmate and Rainbow E2 that run 24/7/365 cleaning our air. The Rainbow does quite well with spills, dog accidents as well or every once in a while we put power nozzle on it and do carpets. Carpet shampooing is our Hoover SteamVac Widepath! |

"Mummy" would never allow us to use a mop. But, tons of people do. I felt a little funny buying even a steam mop (HOOVER, of course). She also used to paste wax the hardwood floors on here hands and knees, follwed by a HOOVER polisher. Now that the floors have all been refinshed, there really is no need to do any of that anymore.
But, if I want to.....................I can. |

Just gave the house an uber thorough going through with the Rainbow for all the bare floors and above floor detail cleaning and the Dyson DC28 AirMuscle for the rugs.
(I am NOT, NOT, NOT trying to start yet ANOTHER Dyson battle. I am just sharing my cleaning regiment!)
For the mopping of the bare floors, I have a commercial mop bucket that I fill with scalding hot water, so that the mop is actually steaming when it gets wrung out. I find that this leaves the floors streak free and they dry within a minute or so. I also use a commercial floor cleaner called 'Emerald'. It's made by a company called MPC Maintenance Solutions.
The restrooms get cleaned with another commercial cleaning agent, Pro-Link "Bright n Fresh". It's a fantastic non acidic cleaner that really cuts through soap scum and other residue.
Woodwork, glass, mirrors, and most other surfaces get cleaned with a bucket of hot water, Parsons Sudsy Ammonia, and white lint free cloths, and a squeegee for the windows, of course. |

My cleaning routine is pretty simple just vacuum is my motto! I have wall to wall carpet which gets vacuumed mainly with the vacuum I’m in the mood to use. The ceramic tile in both bathrooms gets cleaned with either my Hoover Floormate or Floor-A-Matic, which are great! No more mops! I’m not ashamed to admit that I use cheap cleaning products or buy my cleaning products at estate sales. I do however splurge on Pledge multi-surface cleaner. It’s great because Pledge multi-surface can clean a variety of surfaces without having to switch cleaners.
I see that many of us use Murphy oil soap. My mom really enjoys going over her wood cabinets with Murphy oil soap. Since I have all wood cabinets and dark wood paneling (hope to change that at some point) in the Den I do the same. I was told that Pledge and other spray wood cleaners are using more water than oil and real wood needs oil to keep it from drying out. One more thing, I can’t stand a dirty bathroom. Mine gets wiped down at least twice a week or more. |

I also like to do a 'commercial-style' cleaning. I use mostly hotel-grade cleaners (Odor Bane & Elky-Pro mostly). I like Odor Bane because I can clean most any surface & mop with it too. All of my mahogany judge's paneling gets a Murphy's Oil Soap wash down then a Liquid Gold wipe down (Liquid Gold has a glossier finish than Pledge). I also have a commercial fogging machine for sanitizing & odors. I've also got a Shark steam mop & a 50s Hoover scrubber/polisher for hard surfaces. I hope to get my Sanitaire finished before Christmas so I can do a deep cleaning with it. I'm also getting a MinuteMan V14 Pro from a friend to use for that too, that will be my first vac in a long time that actually has onboard attachments lol.
